This versatile formula is appropriate for all skin types and is designed to provide the most effective coverage for redness and dark circles. Use in isolated areas with our Concealer brush or your fingers. For full coverage all over the face, use with a dry sponge. For sheer coverage, use a wet sponge or blend with moisturizer.
3 Custom Color Specialists’ Creme Concealer/Foundation comes in 10 shades. This review is for the concealer in #5 Medium.
This compact is made of metal-looking steel-colored plastic that has the “3″ logo on the top. Inside, you will find the concealer and, conveniently, a mirror. The packaging is simple and sleek. It’s also particularly lightweight and ideal for traveling with. The snap-shut lid will keep the compact from opening up in your bag.
First, the formulation for this concealer is great. It is a smooth and creamy consistency that is both thick enough to effectively cover dark circles and redness but thin enough to glide smoothly over the skin. I have tried many cream concealers, and they are often either too thin to give you the desired coverage or too thick and leave a heavy texture behind. This concealer does settle into lines over time, so set it with powder and don’t over-layer it.
Second, the company provides a good color range. When I received this concealer, the pan looked quite dark compared to my skin color. I saw that it was in “medium” and was worried it would be too dark. Usually, I am the 2nd- or 3rd- lightest foundation color in a company’s color range. But #5 actually fits my skin color perfectly. This means that the company provides 4 shades that are either lighter than my skin tone or have different undertones. There are also 5 colors darker than the one reviewed here. A range of 10 shades makes it very likely you will find a good match for your skin color.
Third, this product is versatile. It works well both under the eyes and for redness or blemishes. Plus, you can use it as a foundation by applying it with a damp sponge.
I do wish this concealer had an SPF of 15 or higher, but as formulated, it does not give any sun protection.
Ease of Use: 9.5/10
The concealer glides on smoothly, layers well, and blends out easily. For under the eyes, I apply with my fingers. You can also use a concealer brush. For use as a foundation, opt for a damp sponge instead of a dry one. Unless you need heavy coverage, you should thin out the product with a damp sponge to give a more natural finish all over the face.
This concealer costs $22.50 and contains 0.1 oz of product. MAC’s Studio Finish Concealer and Studio Sculpt Concealer cost $17.00 each and contain 0.24 oz and 0.19 oz of product, respectively. This puts the 3 Custom Color concealer on the expensive side for a high-end concealer.
If you are unsure of which color to get, I would email the company and ask them to help color-match you. I would have never chosen #5 as my shade, but based on a description of my skin color/tone and a photo I sent the company, they matched me perfectly to the right shade.
