Artistic Pigment Swatches: Retro-Robotic Violeta, Shadow Keeper, Amarela, Nylon Garden

FaceFront’s Ouro Fino collection contains 5 eye shadow pigments. This review covers 4 of the pigments in Retro-Robotic Violeta, Shadow Keeper, Amarela, and Nylon Garden.

Please see this post for more photos and swatches.

Company’s Description

For a color-true experience, use the best. These highly pigmented loose mineral eye shadows are not only recognized by the industry’s best make-up artists, but also a customer favorite. Versatile enough to use all over face for contouring and special effects, but specially formulated for eyes. Create beautiful looks with this make-up artist must-have. From delicate day looks, guide and mold your creativity to create bold, energetic creations perfect for night life, stage, or screen. May be used wet or dry.

Packaging: 8.5/10

These powders come in plastic jars that have twist-off tops and sifters inside. The packaging is lightweight and the tops fit securely, making these good for putting in your makeup case.

Loose powders are inevitably more messy than pressed powders, but the holes in the sifters are the right size so that you don’t get too much powder going everywhere. In fact, I wish the sifters had 5 holes instead of 3 because you do have to tap the jars a few times to get enough pigment into the jar. But this is a very small inconvenience.

Each jar lid has a clear plastic sticker on it displaying the company’s logo. I would prefer the logo to be printed directly onto the jar. But, again, this preference is minor, and given that FaceFront is a newly re-vamped company, I expect that the packaging designs will change and improve over time.

Quality: 9.25/10

Retro-Robotic Violeta is a shiny light violet color with subtle blue shimmers. Shadow Keeper is a dark Amethyst color. Amarela is a bright bumble bee yellow color. And Nylon Garden is a metallic olive green color. All four colors have tons of gold shimmers in them.

These shadows have great pigmentation, go on smoothly, and can be used wet or dry. Each gives a very beautiful shimmery effect.

Ease of Use: 9/10

You can use these pigments both wet and dry. They go on smoothly, can be layered, and blend easily.

Applying these products won’t be as simple as applying pressed shadows, but that’s the nature of application when you’re working with loose powders.

Price: 8.75/10

The pigments are $15.50 each and contain 5g of product. For comparison, Bare Escentuals eye shadows give you 0.57 g of product for $13. You are getting 10 times the amount of product for a couple more dollars with the FaceFront pigments. Everyday Minerals shadows have 2.5 g of product and are $7 each. So, you are paying $3.10 per gram for the FaceFront shadows, compared to $2.80 per gram for EM shadows. You are getting much more product than with Bare Escentuals, but you are also paying a little more than you would with EM shadows.

Given the quality of these shadows, I think $15.50 is a pretty good price, but, of course, a price-point at $12-13 would be even better!

90.25/100

I’m so happy to see a review of a lesser-known brand…it’s really helpful to hear your thoughts! I’m too wimpy to try out a new brand without seeing at least a couple of reviews!

    Thanks for the swatches! 🙂
I was wondering if Retro-Robotic Violeta could be a dupe for MAC’s Azuki Bean in the Cutie quad? It doesn’t look very similar in your arm swatch, but looks close to it when you have it on your eye… what do you think? Thanks in advance!
