Review: Hard Candy Sheer Envy Skin Perfecting Primer

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Skin Perfecting Primer

This is a review for Hard Candy’s Sheer Envy Skin Perfecting Primer. This primer costs $8.00 and is available at WalMart.

Company’s Description

Sheer Envy Primer helps to even out the skin while reducing shine. Improves foundation application while minimizing skin imperfections. Make-up lasts longer and skin is left velvety smooth. Skin Perfecting Primer – A skin tone perfecting primer that brightens dull or sallow skin. Fills in fine lines, wrinkles and pores for a flawless, smooth finish. Gives your face a beautiful, natural color complexion that lasts all day long. Evens out skin tone and diffuses redness and blotchiness. Can be worn alone or under makeup.

Packaging: 9.5/10

This primer comes in a plastic squeeze-tube. This packaging is durable and light-weight. The packaging makes it easy to control how much product you get out of the tube and keeps dispensing sanitary.

Quality: 8.75/10

This is a clear, silicone-based primer (ingredient: dimethicone). Silicone acts as a slip agent, smoothing out the surface of the skin. The great thing about this formulation is that, despite being silicone-based, it feels much lighter on the skin than other silicone-based primers (like Smashbox’s primer).

The primer helps foundation go on smoothly and helps it last all day.

Unlike Hard Candy’s claims, though, this primer doesn’t do much for minimizing redness or brightening the skin.

Ease of Use: 10/10

Application is simple. Just squeeze out a pea-sized amount and smooth onto the skin with your fingers.

Price: 9/10

This primer is 1.6 oz and costs $8.00. For comparison, Revlon’s Smoothing Primer is 0.85 oz and costs $11.99. For a good-quality primer, $8.00 is a great price.

Final Grade

91.25/100

Toss/Try/Buy
Toss if: you want a primer that reduces redness or illuminates
Try if: you want a good drugstore primer
Buy if: you want an affordable primer that is silicone-based but also lightweight

I have a Paula’s Choice serum that I use as a primer…but since this one is so cheap, I might check it out anyway!

      I love Paula’s Choice!!

      • Lisa B. says:

Do you use Paula’s Choice skin care or makeup?
Btw I really appreciate that you’re reviewing both high/department store brands and low end products and ones like FaceFront, which is mostly online, right? Do you think you’ll eventually do some other online-only brands?

        • Allura says:

I use a lot of her skincare items–they are, by far, the best on the market. FaceFront is an online-only brand. I can definitely try to do more online-only brands, including Paula’s Choice. :)

ohhh…you made it sound like it’s a great product. A- is a great score. I have a primer, but not sure if it is silicon base. It’s all in korean. You said it is cheaper than revlon, and for me, that it is a deal breaker. I’m going to check it out :)
