This review covers Illamasqua’s Toxic Nature Nail Varnishes in Radium, Stagnate, Purity, and Bacterium. Radium is a neon lime with shimmers, Stagnate is a grey mauve, Purity is a light peach, and Bacterium is a pearlescent ash ochre.
Please see this post for additional photos and swatches.
Packaging: 9/10
These varnishes come in glass, rectangular jars and have long, synthetic brushes.
Quality: 9/10
All of these colors are pigmented and fairly opaque. You could get away with applying just one coat of each, and will get a solid color with 2 coats. Stagnate is a little less even in application, but will still give a solid color with 2 coats.
Radium and Bacterium are unique colors. There are other lime nail colors out there, but Radium is a neon lime that also has shimmers. Bacterium is the most unique color in this collection, with an opalescent duo-chrome finish on it.
Ease of Use: 9/10
These colors apply fairly evenly and you only need, at most, 2 coats. I do wish the brushes were shorter to give more control over application.
Price: 7/10
You get 15 ml for £13.50 (approximately $21.76). Other high-end brands like OPI and China Glaze sell high-quality polishes of similar size for much less ($8-$9). Illamasqua does create very unique colors, but $21.76 is over-priced, even for high-quality polishes.
Try if: you’re willing to splurge on a high-quality polish
Buy if: you want a unique lime or duo-chrome taupe color
The purity and radium colours are bananas!!!!
MUST have purity!
