This review covers Illamasqua’s Toxic Nature Sheer Lipglosses in Torture and Divine. Illamasqua describes Torture as a “warm coral peach” and Divine as a “deep fuschia pink.”
Please see this post for additional photos and swatches.
The Sheer Lipglosses come in clear, squeezable tubes and have slanted plastic applicators.
Illamasqua describes Torture as a “warm coral peach,” but a more accurate color description would be neon orange. Regardless, both these colors are, consistent with the name, sheer. In fact, Torture is so sheer in color that it goes on almost clear and didn’t change my lip color much. Divine has more color, and deposits a sheer but bright pink on the lips.
The formulation is very liquidy, moisturizing, and not at all sticky. Because they’re liquidy, these glosses won’t last as long as others–I’d say an hour if you don’t eat or drink.
The glosses also have a light, fruity, sweet scent that reminds me of Starbursts. The scent is there, but not strong.
Ease of Use: 9.25/10
These glide on easily and don’t require careful application, since the colors are so translucent. The thing that makes application slightly awkward is the packaging. You have to squeeze out the right amount of gloss and apply with the slanted applicator.
You get 0.2 fl oz for £13.00 (approximately $20.96). For comparison, MAC’s Tinted Lipglasses are $14.50 and 0.17 fl oz each. That comes out to $104.80/g for Illamasqua and $85.29/g for MAC. These glosses are pricey, and given that the colors aren’t super unique or long-lasting, $20.96 is a high price-point.
Try if: you need a gloss that’s easy to slap on without a mirror
Buy if: you want a super-moisturizing, sheer gloss
