Company’s Description

A smoky eye adds an instant air of mystery—create your own with the True Romance Eyeshadow Palette. Designed especially for Sephora by reality television star Kat Von D, this artistic spectrum of shades will bring a touch of edgy-glam to your look. The palette’s sleek compact is stenciled with imagery inspired by an old-world romantic place and itself is a tattoo-inspired work of art.

One of the most popular items in Kat Von D’s makeup line is her True Romance eye shadow palettes. The palette in Saint, reviewed here, contains the following colors, left-to-right:

  • Heavens: pearlized vanilla
  • Enjoy the Silence: pearlized butter-cream
  • <3: soft pink with sparkle
  • Downtown: pearlized champagne
  • Sunny: pearlized gold
  • Pray For Me: pearlized taupe
  • Bookworm: pearlized brown
  • Caravaggio: dark matte brown
  • Mini Puro Amor: Black Autograph Pencil Eyeliner

Packaging: 9.5/10

This palette comes in a black metal compact that snaps shut and contains a mirror inside. My only criticism is that a spring connects the lid to the pan and flops open instead of keeping the top upright so that you can use the mirror without holding the lid up.

The box packaging also deserves a mention. The palette comes in a cardboard box that unfolds like an intricate envelope. It’s not the most convenient of packaging, but is quite interesting.

Quality: 9.5/10

The formula for these shadows is buttery-smooth. For the most part, the shadows go on cleanly and evenly without being powdery. The 2 matte shadows at the end of the palette (on the right) go on a little more unevenly than the shimmery colors.

This palette allows you to create a full eye look because it includes mattes as well as shimmers. Many times, palettes don’t offer even 1 matte shadow, forcing you to grab for another eye shadow to complete an eye look.

The range of colors is also good–you get both warm- and cool-toned and light and dark shadows. The colors and quality remind me very much of Urban Decay’s Naked palette.

Ease of Use: 9.5/10

These shadows are easy to work with because they glide onto the skin, have good color pay-off and don’t cause any significant fall-out. You do need to swipe the brush a little to even out the 2 dark matte colors.

Price: 8.5/10

For $35.00 you get 8 colors for a total of 0.4 ounces of shadow. Plus, you get a mini black eye liner. The Urban Decay Naked palette contains 12 colors for a total of 0.6 ounces of shadow, but costs $48. You do also get a mini primer potion and liner. Given the number of colors and items, Kat Von D’s palette actually costs more than the Naked palette.

Final Grade

93/100

The colors remind me of the Naked too and the quality looks really good. Nice review!

  2. Sthobbie says:

It is so good that more brands keep coming out with more neutral palette I am waiting for the naked2 to come to Europe but this seems very nice as well.

  3. For a stationery addict like me, its the box package that I am interested with. I love the shades, they are work friendly and safe.

You noted something about the packaging that I wouldn’t even have thought of–the palette lid doesn’t stay up? That somewhat negates the convenience of having a mirror in the lid anyway. The shade variety looks really nice though, other than the 3rd-from-left pink one with glittery bits! I can kinda see the slight dragging/unevenness in the matte shadows, from your swatches.

    • Allura says:

The pink one with large silver glitters actually applies well. I thought the same thing–that the glitters would be unflattering. But it didn’t turn out that way.

That is sooooo pretty! I guess I need to take another trip to France to go get this :-)!
