Sephora recently started selling Japanese makeup line Koh Gen Do. This review is for one of their foundations–Aqua Foundation SPF 15 PA++. I tested the shade OC-2 (natural medium ochre).
The Aqua Foundation comes in a glass jar with a pump dispenser.
This liquid foundation has an extremely watery consistency and gives you light coverage. If you add on additional layers, you can build up to medium coverage.
The finish is very dewy, which provides the advantage of moisturizing the skin. It doesn’t look oily, but is shiny. You will want to set the product with a powder, even if you have dry skin. If you have oily or combination skin, I wouldn’t recommend this foundation.
The thin formula is prone to fading after about 5 hours.
There are only 4 shades of this foundation made, which common among Asian makeup brands, since there isn’t as much variation in Asian skin. OC-2 is a bit too dark on me, but much more noticeable than the color-match was the orange tint OC-2 had, as if it had already oxidized even before putting it on.
The good thing about this foundation is the inclusion of the sun-protecting ingredient titanium dioxide, which provides full-spectrum protection against sun damage.
Ease of Use: 9/10
This foundation glides effortlessly over the skin because of the watery formula. You do need to take the extra step of setting with powder.
For $62.00, you get 1.01 ounces of foundation. Even for high-end foundations, this is expensive. For comparison, NARS’ Sheer Glow Foundation is $42.00 and contains 1 ounce.
