Review & Swatches: MAC Daphne Guinness Blush Ombres

MAC Daphne Guinness Blush Ombres

Availability: MAC Stores & Online
Price: $26.00 each

Company’s Description

A powder blush featuring a shade wave of gentle ombre hues. Ultra-fine formula provides the cheeks with flawless, medium-buildable coverage and lightly pearled, natural-looking radiance.

This review is for the 2 Blush Ombres included in MAC’s upcoming Daphne Guinness Collection. The colors are as follows:

  • Azalea Blossom: Light cool pink (Repromote)
  • Vintage Grape: Mid-tone violet pink (Repromote)

Packaging: 9/10

These are housed in standard MAC packaging: round plastic compacts with snap-shut, see-through lids.

Quality: 8.75/10

Each Blush Ombre contains 2 distinct colors. Azalea Blossom has a cool-toned light pink and a darker, blue-based pink. Vintage Grape contains a mid-toned violet pink and a medium-grape purple. Each pan has small silver shimmers throughout.

Neither of these have strong pigmentation, though Vintage Grape does show up more easily, largely because it contains darker colors. The formulation is on the stiffer side, so you do need to pick up the product with several swipes of your brush.

Ease of Use: 8.5/10

Because the formula lacks softness, you need to apply several layers and blend a significant amount to even out the finish.

Price: 9.25/10

for $26.00, you get 9 grams of blush. Regular MAC blushes are $19.50 and contain 6 grams. You get a much better deal with the Blush Ombres, though they are not as pigmented.

Final Grade

88.25/100

These are super cute and gorgeous

  2. They are cute looking but a no-no for the pigmentation. Still I’m gonna buy them simply for their looks. I’m a sucker for powder arts!

I tried Vintage Grape on the last release, but I just didn’t like how it looked…and I think I’d end up mostly using the pink end of Azalea Blossom. This one is definitely for you, though, isn’t it? Would you show us a purplish cheek look sometime? (Oh, no, wait, don’t! Because then I’ll convince myself that I can make it work too… :-p)

I was so excited to see the blush ombres in again- they’re always so pretty because of the gradient of the colours! But upon reading your review, it is a shame that the formula is stiff, which makes me cautious on buying it when I pop into my Mac counter to try these out! 🙁

    Thanks for the review!
    Sarah(:

    Love these!

I LOVE your videos and blog – I have a stupid question, I am dying to get my hands on these blushes – is there a certain time of the day that MAC releases their cosmetics online? (such as 12 am CST, etc?). I’m kind of a new MAC user and I really want these! Thanks so much!!!
