Dark, moody, painterly, this limited-edition Eye Shadow compact melds Daphne Guinness’ choice of muted pink and dusky lavender with charcoal and mid-tone grey, creating a rich, smoky look.
This review is for the Interior Life eye shadow quad that comes with MAC’s upcoming Daphne Guinness Collection. The colors are as follows:
- Stratus (matte): Light pink
- Bruised Sky (satin): Dark lavender gray
- Interior Life (velvet): Mid-tone gray blue
- Heather Belles (satin): Dark charcoal
This quad is packaged in a standard MAC container–a plastic 2-by-2 palette with a see-through, flip-up, magnetized lid.
Stratus is a pale, pale cool pink that you almost can’t see on my NC20 skin, even after layering. The formula is actually quite smooth, but it just doesn’t show up. It will be a lovely highlighting color on darker skin, though.
Bruised Sky is a dark lavender-toned grey with a satin finish. Interior Life is a deep taupe with a velvet finish (though the quad says it is a veluxe pearl). Heather Belles is a deep, almost-black with a satin finish. All 3 of these colors have mediocre color-payoff and need several layers to bring out the color and smooth out the finish. The good news is that if you do take the time to layer the colors, you get quite beautiful finishes.
Ease of Use: 8/10
Use a primer or base and expect to apply 2-3 layers after picking up plenty of product at each go.
Single shadows are (now) $15.00 each, so for four colors, $38.00 is a good deal, though this favorable price is mitigated by the quality of the shadows.
