Review & Swatches: MAC Dazzlesphere! Pink Mini Gloss Kit

Dazzlesphere! Pink Mini Gloss Kit

Limited Edition
Release Date: December 10, 2011
Availability: MAC online & MAC stores

MAC’s Dazzlespheres collection features 3 limited-edition Mini Gloss Kits. This review is for the “Pink” kit:

  • Dazzleglass – Rags to Riches: Plummy pink with red pearlized pigments (Permanent)
  • Dazzleglass – Like Venus: Clean light bubblegum pink with red pearl (Permanent)
  • Cremesheen Glass – Fashion Scoop: Clear pink (Permanent)
  • Cremesheen Glass – Petite Indulgence: Mid-tone bright blue pink (Limited Edition, Repromote)

Packaging: 9/10

The glosses themselves are housed in clear tubes. The Dazzleglasses have plastic brush applicators while the Cremesheen Glasses have doe-foot applicators. Unfortunately, I have to take off points because, some of the Dazzleglass applicators were stiff–like they had been glued together and then hardened.

The set is housed in plastic globes with the top-halves being see-through and bottom-halves being silver. You twist the halves to open up the globe and access the product. This packaging makes for a great holiday gift.

Quality: 8/10

Rags to Riches is a translucent, light strawberry with a ton of pink and red pearlized pigments. Like Venus is pretty much clear with a good number of light red pearls. Fashion Scoop is a sheer, light pink with tiny pearls throughout. Petite Indulgence is a blue-based, sheer pink.

All of these have a slight tackiness to them, but the Dazzleglasses are comparatively more tacky. They are all pretty sheer, but Petite Indulgence will give your lips a little oomph of color.

Of the 3 kits sold in the Dazzlespheres collection, I like this one slightly more than the Neutral and Coral sets because the 4 colors in the Pink kit are noticeably different and both Petite Indulgence and Rags to Riches have a little punch of color. But, 3 of the 4 colors are permanent, so you’re only getting Petite Indulgence as a new color.

Ease of Use: 9/10

Because all of the colors are sheer, application is almost fool-proof. You can slap these colors on without a mirror and not worry about being precise.

If you get one of the defective, stiff applicators, though, be prepared for an awkward and uncomfortable application.

Price: 9.5/10

Strangely, you get 2.6 grams in each Dazzleglass and 1.9 grams in each Cremesheen Glass. Regular Dazzleglasses are 1.92 grams each and regular Cremesheen Glasses are 2.7 grams each. So, despite these kits being “mini,” you get more Dazzleglass gloss with this set than you would with a “full-sized” Dazzleglass.

In any case, you get a total of 9 grams of product for $32.50, which means you pay $3.61 for each gram of gloss you get. Normally, you would pay $8.01 for each gram.

AMAZING post, I like how you cleared up the grams, so funny how they’re almost half the size but pretty much the same amount of product, makes them such a bargain! Unfortunately for me they’re TOO sheer and barely show up on my lips haha

  2. This is my favorite set among the three. They will work well with my pink undertones 🙂

Blech, too bad about the applicators. I’m not a Dazzleglass fan, or I’d be all over these…I wish they’d re-release some of the other old Cremesheen Glass colors in a mini set. I’m still hopeful that they’ll do mini Paint Pots someday!
