Gareth Pugh’s futuristic vision takes on a striking metallic shine. On the skin, this creamy powder formula melts into a vibrant liquid metal finish. The designer’s signature style is articulated in the black compact.
The Gareth Pugh collection comes with 2 Metal X Cream Shadows in the colors “Ardent” and “Obscura”:
- Obscura: Frosted gunmetal grey
- Ardent: Frosty blackened burgundy
Gareth Pugh Metal X Cream Shadows come in square, shiny black compacts that are relatively heavy. This is the same packaging that the Strada blush in this collection comes in. The signature “X” designed is embossed into the lid.
Obscura is a silver color that has multi-colored shimmers, including blue and purple. Ardent is a deep plum with lighter purple shimmers.
Both colors have strong color payoff, opaque finishes, and high shine. The formula is very soft and creamy, with a texture closer to mousse than cream.
The problem with these shadows is that they crease easily. The only real way to prevent this is to use less product and set with a powder. You can also get away with not covering the cream with a powder if you use a very, very thin layer. But you lose the vibrancy and color as you thin out the product.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
It’s difficult balancing how much product to use. To capture the vibrancy of the color, you need to use more product, but to keep it from creasing, you need to thin it out. The best compromise is to use a medium amount of product and set it with a translucent powder so that you’re not covering up the underlying color while still helping the product to not crease.
For $32.00, you get 2.4 grams of shadow. Normally, Metal X Cream Shadows are $20. As expected, products in special collaborations collections like this one cost considerably more. At least with this product, you get the same amount as you would normally.
