Review & Swatches: MAC Glitter & Ice Mineralize Eye Shadows

Glitter & Ice Mineralize Eye Shadows

Limited Edition
Release Date: October 27, 2011
Availability: MAC online & MAC stores

MAC’s Glitter & Ice collection includes 6 limited-edition Mineralize Eye Shadows:

  • Fresh Ice: White silver melange
  • Snow Season: Soft taupe melange
  • Hold That Pose!: Pale mauve melange
  • Frozen Blue: Blue silver melange
  • Shimmermint: Pale green melange
  • Winterized: Dirty purple with silver, indigo, and pink melange

Packaging: 9/10

These shadows come in standard MAC packaging but are larger than normal eye shadows. The compacts are plastic and come with snap-shut, flip-up tops. For Glitter & Ice, the plastic is white instead of MAC’s standard black.

Quality: 9/10

Despite previous collections’ less-than-excellent mineralize shadows, the 6 in this collection are actually pretty good.

Overall, these colors go on evenly and have decent pigmentation. I swatched each color first dry, then with a damp brush. The shadows are a little more pigmented when swatched wet. MAC’s color descriptions are accurate and, as with all mineralize shadows, these are shimmery.

The least impressive of the 6 is Shimmermint, which is weaker in color and pigmentation than the other 5 shadows.

Ease of Use: 9.25/10

The finishes are fairly even and you can intensify the color with multiple layers. These shadows work both dry and foiled.

Price: 9.5/10

You get 3 g for $21.00 compared to 1.5 g for $15.00 with regular MAC shadows. Assuming the quality is good, you’re getting a deal with the mineralize shadows.

Final Grade

91.5/100

Eh…really not feeling these. I’m kinda surprised you rated them this highly, but I guess they might be that good, at least compared to previous Mineralize shadows.

Whoops, thought of something else to say…They’re just all sooooo light! There are only so many dark shadows one can use at once, true…but the same for light ones, you know? I guess the whole collection is really going for the frosty eyes though…*looks at promo pics* well, no, maybe not…
