Review & Swatches: MAC Me Over (Part I) Eye Kohls

MAC Me Over Eye Kohls

Release Date: August 25, 2011
Availability: MAC online & MAC stores

This review covers MAC’s 2 MAC Me Over Eye Kohl liners.

  • Teddy: Intense bronze (Permanent)
  • Smolder: Intense black (Permanent)

Packaging: 9/10

These are pencil liners that you sharpen down and that have simple, slide-on caps.

Quality: 9.25/10

The formula for these liners is soft, so the color transfers onto the skin smoothly and easily. You can also apply them to the waterline. The pigmentation is opaque for both colors.

They aren’t water- or smudge-proof, so if you want staying power all day, set it with powder.

Ease of Use: 9.75/10

These pencils apply easily and smoothly.

Price: 8.25/10

Eye Kohls are $15.00 each and contain 1.45 g of product. This is in the same ballpark as other MAC liners, but is a little steep, in a vacuum, for one pencil liner.

Final Grade

Toss if: you need a waterproof liner
Try if: you need a reliable, neutral-color liner
Buy if: you want an intense black or brown liner with a soft formulation

Nice colors as usual, but still…just a pencil. I just can’t really believe there’s a huge difference between a drugstore pencil and a department-store brand pencil…at least, no difference that makes it worth the price. Maybe pigmentation/quality of pigments? I don’t really know.
