A sponge designed and shaped to enable precise application and blending of liquid or cream formulas in hard-to-reach areas of the face. Pink. Latex-free.
MAC sells several sponge applicators in their “Applicators” line. This review is for the Pro Performance Sponge.
Since the product and packaging are one-in-the-same, I am combining these categories for this review.
This sponge is rounded on one end and narrows to a point on the other. The shape looks curious, but makes this applicator appropriate for using on large planes of the face (like the forehead and cheeks) as well as small, harder-to-reach parts like around the nose.
The sponge itself is smooth and soft to the touch, making it good for patting product onto the skin and blending it out. It works well for foundation and smooths out the color effectively without leaving a texture behind.
It also keeps it shape better than other blending sponges I’ve tried (Sonia Kashuk’s and the beautyblender). This makes it more durable. It doesn’t expand as much as the other sponges when you wash it and the lack of expanding and contracting as it dries makes the material last longer.
Ease of Use: 9.8/10
This sponge works well with liquids, gels, and creams. It blends and smooths out products nicely over the skin and lets you get into small spaces with the pointed side of the sponge.
At $18.00, the Pro Performance Sponge is $1.95 less than the beautyblender. Plus, it has a more dynamic shape than the beautyblender, making this a good deal. There are, of course, cheaper versions of this type of applicator on the market (like Sonia Kashuk’s), but for high-end versions, this price is competitive.
