Review & Swatches: Maybelline Great Lash Colored Mascaras

Maybelline Great Lash Colored Mascaras

This is a review for Maybelline’s 3 colored mascaras in Teal Appeal, Green Envy, and Royal Blue. Royal Blue has been part of Maybelline’s mascara line for a long time, but Teal Appeal and Green Envy are new additions to the line and are both limited-edition.

You can purchase these mascaras for $5-6 at your local drugstore, Target, or WalMart.

Packaging: 9/10

These mascaras come in bright pink plastic tubes and have green handles. The football-shaped brush has synthetic bristles and is smaller than a typical mascara brush.

Quality: 8.25/10

The names for each of these mascaras accurately describe their colors. The colors translate well onto the lashes, which is impressive given that this is a drugstore product.

The formula for this mascara is excellent. It’s on the watery side, but isn’t goopy or difficult to work with.

You won’t get any crazy volumizing out of this mascara. By virtue of the formula and the bright coloring, you will get some lash definition. Like the regular Great Lash mascaras, these aren’t particularly smudge-resistant or long-wearing. They are best suited for day-wear when you don’t need any dramatic effect. The best thing about this formula is that it’s nearly impossible to get clumpy lashes. Even if you apply 2-3 coats, the mascara’s consistency prevents clumping.

The small brush size, overall, is a plus for this mascara. On one hand, it takes longer to apply the mascara because the brush is smaller. On the other hand, the brush size lets you coat each lash and to get into the corners and lower lashes without getting mascara onto your eye.

Ease of Use: 8.75/10

It takes more time to get all your lashes because the brush is small. But you can get into the corners and coat the lower lashes without getting mascara everywhere. And you don’t have to worry about clumps.

Price: 9.5/10

These are 0.43 fl oz and cost $5-6 each. This is a great price for a good-quality colored mascara. MAC’s recently released Zoom Lash Coloured Mascaras are 8 g and $14.00 each. Green Envy by Maybelline is easily a dupe for MAC’s Green is Green. Maybelline’s Royal Blue is, likewise, a dupe for MAC’s Blue Charge.

Final Grade

86.75/100

Toss/Try/Buy
Toss if: you want dramatic length or volume
Try if: you want MAC’s Zoom Lash Coloured mascaras but don’t want to pay $14.00

I am not sure if I would ever wear colorful mascara, but I at least know what brand to buy it from. I like Maybelline’s products. They know what to produce and how to make it better than everyone else. LOVE THEM!!!

  9. Lisa B. says:

Ooh, if only I wore mascara…or if only I could figure out how to apply it! I’ve tried curling my lashes and all that jazz and it’s still too much trouble and too messy…do you curl your lashes? Asian lashes like ours tend to point downwards, so I was wondering.

    • Allura says:

I don’t curl my lashes regularly or for the photos.

Does the curl not stay when you try to curl them? If the curl doesn’t hold, I’d suggest using waterproof mascara, which will hold the curl for longer. If application is messy, try to find a drier formula (which waterproof mascaras tend to be) or a mascara with a smaller wand.
