This is a review for the second set in OPI’s Glam Slam! France collection, which includes Rally Pretty Pink and Red Shatter. This collection was created in collaboration with Serena Williams.
You can buy these polishes at Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA.
OPI captures Serena Williams’ winning spirit with four additions to the Glam Slam! collection, including two new shades of the fashionable, must-have Shatter – Red and White. Launching in conjunction with the French Open, Glam Slam! France celebrates with two duo-packs for four unbeatable looks.
“Whether I’m on or off the court, style is important,” explains Serena Williams. “In addition to watching the runways for the latest trends, I think it’s important to add my own unique elements. With the new White and Red Shatter, I can customize my nails for a high-fashion take on the classically elegant silver and sunset shades in the Glam Slam! France collection.”
These polishes come in classic OPI bottles. The handles for the Shatter polishes have a crackle design on them. The brushes and handles are both of medium length, which makes application easy. The brush is flat, which also helps with application.
Rally Pretty Pink is a clear color with tons of small red and gold shimmers. Red Shatter is a true red color with a semi-glossy finish that goes on top and splits as it dries, creating a crackling effect.
Rally Pretty Pink is a color that can stand on its own. The sparkles go on evenly and prominently. Red Shatter “shatters” more evenly that White Shatter, which is also released with this collection. But, like with White Shatter and Spark de Triomphe, Rally Pretty Pink doesn’t show through very prominently under Red Shatter because it’s not a solid color.
You’ll need to apply a topcoat, otherwise the shatter polish will flake off. Even with a topcoat, expect the crackle polish to last a day or 2 less compared to normal polishes. The raised ridges cause by the “crackling” makes it more likely the polish will peel off.
Ease of Use: 8.5/10
The sparkling color is simple to apply. You have to be more particular when applying Shatter polishes. First, make sure the polish underneath is absolutely, completely dry. You should also use a “dry” polish formula as your first layer. Some polishes (usually cheaper brands) are “soft” polishes that take a long time to dry and don’t have a tough finish even when they do dry. Those polishes make it really difficult to put Shatter polishes on top of, so avoid using them.
Second, use a thin layer of the Shatter polish and don’t layer it. It seems like you’d get a stronger “crackling” effect if you put a on a thicker layer, but what ends up happening is that the polish doesn’t separate well and you actually end up with a weak or uneven “crackling” effect.
Third, put on a clear topcoat.
You get 15 ml of product for $8.50 each. This price is comparable to the cost of other high-end nail polishes from companies like China Glaze and Essie.
