Review: Ouidad Essential Daily Trio

Ouidad Essential Daily Shampoo, Conditioner, and Styling Gel

This is a review for 3 of Ouidad’s hair products: (1) Clear & Gentle Essential Daily Shampoo, (2) Balancing Rinse Essential Daily Conditioner, and (3) Tress Effects Styling Gel. The shampoo is $13.00, the conditioner is $15.00, and the gel is $15.00; all can be purchased online.

Company’s Description – Shampoo

Ouidad Clear & Gentle Shampoo is a clarifying cleanser that removes styling product build-up plus ordinary environmental residue. Unlike many deep-cleansing shampoos, this formula is gentle enough for delicate curly hair that is color treated.

Clear & Gentle’s low-foaming formula gently cleanses curls while giving your hair the nourishment it needs. Ouidad’s original, all-purpose shampoo is blended with essential Wheat Protein to restore hair’s natural body and shine. Vitamin E and Jojoba Seed Oil help assure your hair looks and feels its healthiest.

Company’s Description – Conditioner

Balancing Rinse Essential Daily Conditioner by Ouidad has just the right blend of oil and wax-free moisturizers to leave hair silky soft, manageable, and tangle-free without ever weighing it down or making it look or feel greasy. Designed to work with Clear & Gentle Shampoo, Balancing Rinse’s oil-free, wax-free, and animal fat-free formulation locks moisture into your curls by closing each hair’s cuticle layer, and can be used as a leave-in conditioner without weighing hair down or leaving a heavy, greasy feel.

Use Balancing Rinse to add more moisture to dry hair or before blow-drying for a straighter style. By providing the proper protein balance to revive dry, dull or damaged hair, Balancing Rinse breathes life into your curls! Special detanglers help prevent overstretching of the hair while combing, and a blend of Wheat Proteins and vitamins helps eliminate frizz while adding softness and manageability.

Company’s Description – Styling Gel

Ouidad’s Tress Effects Lightweight Styling Gel keeps curls soft, defined, frizz-free and super smooth without weighing them down. Its protein and vitamin B-5 packed formula leaves curls shiny, manageable, protected from heat-styling damage and prepared for even the most intricate special occasion style. Botanicals and collagen help smooth uplifted cuticles to prevent frizz and tame flyaways. With Tress Effects, you can achieve beautiful, salon-quality styling every time.

Packaging: 10/10

Each product comes in a soft, cylindrical, plastic bottle. Each has a push-open cap.

Clear & Gentle Essential Daily Shampoo: 9.5/10

First, this shampoo smells fantastic. Normally, fragrance is something to avoid in cosmetics. But fragrance in hair products is the least worrisome. Plus, “fragrance” is the last ingredient. The fragrance itself is light and clean without smelling sterile or boring. I’m sensitive to a lot of scents, but love this one.

This shampoo won’t lather as much as normal shampoos do, but it’s also not suds-free like a lot of “sulfate free” shampoos are. You’ll probably end up using more than you would with a normal shampoo if you’re used to more lather.

This shampoo does what any acceptable shampoo does–it cleans your hair. But what it does that most other shampoos don’t is avoids that “stripped” feeling.

Balancing Rinse Essential Daily Conditioner: 9.5/10

Like the shampoo, this conditioner smells great.

This conditioner will feel thin, which initially made me think it would perform poorly at moisturizing my hair. But the conditioner actually makes your hair very soft. You’ll only notice the moisturizing after you’ve gotten out of the shower and dried your hair.

The thing that distinguishes this conditioner is that it’s light-weight. Because I have long, thin hair, most conditioners will weight my hair down. This is a fantastic conditioner if you have thin hair and want to maintain its volume.

Ouidad is known for specializing in curly hair. While I don’t have curly hair, I do have naturally wavy hair. I did notice that the shampoo and conditioner together helped maintain my hair’s natural shape. Other conditioners make my hair look straighter by weighing it down.

Tress Effects Styling Gel: 8.75/10

This clear gel doesn’t smell nearly as nice as the shampoo or conditioner. It has a faint smell of alcohol, but isn’t strong so shouldn’t bother most people.

The name of the game with this line is light-weight. This gel helps reduce frizz and doesn’t make your hair lose volume.

Ease of Use: 9/10

These items are easy to use. You’ll probably end up using more shampoo than you would with a regular shampoo, but other than that, there’s no learning-curve to using these products.

Price: 9.25/10

The shampoo and conditioner at 8.5 oz each are $13.00 and $15.00, respectively. The gel is also 8.5 oz and costs $15.00. Compared to other high-end hair products, these are at good price-points. For comparison, Bumble & Bumble’s shampoos retail anywhere from $18.00-22.00 and contain only 8 oz.

This is a great trio of products if you have fine hair that can’t afford to lose volume.

Toss if: you want products that will give curls strong definition–these products won’t give you curls you don’t have
Buy if: you want hair products great for fine hair that can’t be weighed down

It sounds nice. I always just buy the big bundle of shampoo and conditioners at Costco. I never fix my hair unless I go to a nice place or a club. I don’t like hairspray because of the smell. It’s cool that the gel doesn’t smell too much like alcohol which is why I don’t like hairspray. Good review 🙂

MMm…I’d never even really heard much about these, but this is intriguing! My only complaint about PC shampoo is that I do kinda miss having a nice scent in the shower…my hair is rather coarse and medium (not thick but not terribly thin) though…do you think it may work for me?
