Packaging: 9.75/10

This product comes in a squeeze-tube with a thin, pointed applicator and twist-off top. The packaging isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, but it’s the most sanitary, travel-friendly possible.

Quality: 9/10

To contextualize my experience with this product, you should know two things: (1) I have combination skin and (2) my skin has become more dry/less oily in the past 1-2 years.

I’ve tried several products that claim to mattify the skin, with little success. All of them mattify the skin when they’re applied, but do little to actually keep the skin matte throughout the day.

So far, this is the best product when it comes to keeping the skin matte over time. The effect lasts up to 4-5 hours–not quite as long as claimed, but longer than any of the other mattifying products I’ve used.

Like all Paula’s Choice products, this one is fragrance free–a great thing for any product you put on your skin, particularly your face. The product itself feels like a silicon gel and applies clear, so you don’t have to worry about it altering the color of your makeup. This also makes it a good option for guys who want an invisible mattifier.

Ease of Use: 9.75/10

There are multiple ways to use this product. Personally, I mix it in with my sunscreen and apply it before applying foundation. Alternatively, you can use a sponge to dab on the product on top of your foundation in the places you get shiny. You can also use it over your moisturizer to help keep shine at bay even if you don’t wear makeup.

Price: 9.75/10

This product retails for $21.95 and contains 1 fl oz of product. Paula’s Choice almost always has a sale going on and the actual price has been hovering at $15.37 for a while now.

Urban Decay’s De-Slick In A Tube Mattifying Gel is $28 and contains 0.67 oz; Laura Mercier’s Secret Finish Mattifying is $27 and contains 1 oz; Make Up For Ever’s All Mat is $45 and contains 1.01 oz. Paula’s Choice Shine Stopper works well and is cheaper than most mattifying products on the market.

Final Grade

Toss if: you expect this product to keep your skin completely matte all day–there really is no topical product that can do this
Try if: you’ve been disappointed by the short-lived mattifying effect of other shine-control products
Buy if: you’re looking for a reasonably-priced mattifier to keep shine at bay for several hours

Glad to hear this stuff works! I may have to try it, though my skin has been getting a bit drier lately too…especially with the dry air at work…
