Review & Swatches: Revlon Perle Eye Shadow in Sparkling Gold

Revlon Perle Eye Shadow in Sparkling Gold

Availability: Drugstores, Target, WalMart, Ulta
Price: $4.99

Revlon’s Perle Eye Shadow line contains several colors, one of which is “Sparkling Gold,” reviewed here. This is a yellow gold with silver sparkles.

You can also read reviews of other Revlon eye shadows: Brushed Copper & Plum Galaxy.

Packaging: 9.25/10

This shadow comes in a plastic compact with a flip-up, snap-shut top. It is very lightweight.

Quality: 7.5/10

Much like Plum Galaxy, when this shadow is swatched dry, it’s weak in pigmentation and dull in finish. The silver sparkles don’t show up as prominently as they do in the pan.

When swatched wet, the color becomes stronger and the silver glitters stand out much more. But the shadow eventually dries and becomes less vibrant.

Ease of Use: 8/10

You have to apply this color wet to get the effect you see in the pan. You also have to use a primer and base if you want to extend the life of the foiled effect.

Price: 9.25/10

You get 2.4 g for approximately $5.00 (the price will vary depending on the store).

Final Grade

81.25/100

I love golds to but I wear contacts so those glitters scare me.

  2. I love any golds. Seems this one is right up my alley since I love the low price.

Heh…this reminds me of Chanel Blazing Gold (well, it’s probably paler) which you might think is a good comparison, but most reviews of it are tepid…with the same complaints as your review for this shadow! (weak pigmentation, definitely need a base, etc).

However, if I really want a gold shadow for Christmas, this is probably a good enough (for ME, anyway) dupe; and I can more easily justify spending $5 on it than $30 for a Chanel one. Thanks for this one! (and the swatches are good for keeping me from spending more…I’ll probably stick with whatever pale golds I already have in my stash!)
