This is a review for Rimmel’s newest Day 2 Night mascara in Extreme Black. You can purchase this mascara for around $8 at your local drugstore, Target, WalMart, or Ulta.
Company’s Description
Buildable formula allows you to create the look you want for day or night. Choose pink cap for up to 75% more length. Choose black cap for up to 12x more volume.
Packaging: 9.5/10
This mascara comes in a black and pink tube. There are two handles and mascara wands in the tube. The outer-most handle reveals a long handle and thin brush–the lengthening brush. The inner handle reveals a shorter handle and fatter brush–the volumizing brush. The first brush (attached to the outer-most handle) actually fits inside the fatter brush, giving you two different-sized brushes, depending on which handle you twist off.
Quality: 8.25/10
This 2-in-1 mascara is quite innovative. I initially felt like it was a bit gimmicky and didn’t believe you could really get that much of a difference by having slightly different designed brushes. I was pleasantly surprised to see clearly different results. Using the volume brush thickens your lashes, but doesn’t give a lot of length. Using the lengthening brush doesn’t give you much volume, but definitely maximizes your lashes’ length.
My main criticism of this mascara is simply that it doesn’t do anything dramatic or special. The volumizing wand does thicken the lashes, but the volume you get isn’t dramatic. By the same token, the lengthening wand lengthens, but it wouldn’t hurt for it to also give the lashes some volume.
The biggest plus is the convenience of having 2 products in a single tube. This mascara would be good to have at work with you if you plan on going out after work: the lengthening side would be great for more subtle lashes and the volumizing side for more dramatic nighttime lashes.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
These apply easily. The brushes are a good size–not too small and not so big that it gets all over your eye. My 2 criticisms are: (1) you have to put on several layers to get a noticeable effect and (2) the lengthening brush’s handle is so thin and long that it’s a bit flimsy and, therefore, harder to control.
Price: 9/10
$8.00 is a typical price for a drugstore mascara. Plus, you are getting two application choices in one product.
Try if: you want a versatile mascara good for traveling light
Buy if: you want a 2-in-1 mascara with the option of getting some length or some volume
A+ for packaging, not a fan of multiple applications!
Wow this mascara gives such a natural definition to your eyelashes! I really like the shape of your eyes BTW
Aw, thank you!
