Review & Swatches: Tarte for True Blood Palette

Tarte for True Blood Palette

This review covers Tarte’s new True Blood palette. This palette is available at Sephora and for $52.

Company’s Description

Get glamoured with this limited-edition palette packed with 17 killer new eyeshadows and more. Each richly pigmented shadow is softly milled and infused with Amazonian clay for pure color payoff, silky application and long wear. From ethereal goddess to vampy vixen, you can create countless looks using these shimmering, matte and smoky shades. Open after dark: buried in a pullout drawer is a full-size emphasEYES™ aqua-gel eyeliner in black, a deluxe lights, camera, lashes! clinically-proven natural mascara and a deluxe lifted™ natural eye primer with Firmitol™ to help you complete your look.

Packaging: 8.5/10

This palette is approximately the size of a small hardcover textbook. The top layer flips up to reveal the eye shadows and a mirror. The lower layer has a drawer that contains Tarte’s Emphaseyes eyeliner, a mini-sized mascara, and a mini-sized shadow primer.

The eye shadow pans are arranged so that they are flush with each other. Although interesting in design, the arrangement risks the colors bleeding into each other when you drag your brush across the pan.

Quality: 9.75/10

The formulation for these shadows is great. The powder is soft and smooth, applies evenly, and has very good pigmentation.

The palette is also great because you get a mixture of matte, sheen-finish, and glittery colors.

Ease of Use: 9.5/10

These colors go on evenly and smoothly. Use a primer underneath to make the colors last and resist against creasing.

Price: 9.5/10

In a vacuum, $52.00 is a lot to pay. But you get 17 full-sized eye shadows, 1 full-sized eye liner, 1 mini primer, and 1 mini mascara.

Individual Tarte eye shadows are $17.00 each; MAC eye shadows are $14.50 each. Either way, 17 shadows for $52.00 (not even considering the extra items in the palette) is a great deal.

This is a beautiful set! I would love to get one of these. I’m usually more of a lipstick buff, but these colors are so pretty and earthy, perfect for my style!

the packaging is really interesting. awesome stuff

  13. Lisa B. says:

I’m a little disappointed that the pans are not separated…I’ve actually never paid much attention to Tarte, period…so I’m glad to hear the shadows are nice! Are there a lot of glittery ones? Nocturnal and The True Death (and maybe Moss?) look especially glittery from the swatches…are they more shimmery and not glittery?

Also…just asking, I’ve never seen True Blood, are you a fan? :-p

    • Allura says:

I actually am, I have to admit. There is a mix of shimmery and glittery ones. Colors like Immortal and Nocturnal are “glittery.” I’d classify colors like Waitress as “shimmery.”

  14. Anna says:

wow neat! Me and the bf used to watch true blood together. I have only tried the tart lash curler which I really like

  15. Elena T says:

I really love the packaging and the color of the eye shadows in this palette. And I like that there are some matte eye shadows and some shimmery ones

  16. maša says:

wow, i would love to get this. the price is great (for what you get) but on the other hand, i don’t need that many different shades. i like that there is a little how-to included and the packaging is totally cool. but i’m thinking … would i even check it out if i weren’t a true blood fan? 😀

  17. Stephanie says:

I loooooove the packaging on this and I’m a total TrueBlood fan. The eyeshadows are pretty, but I have to remind myself that I have similar colors already. Can’t justify it just by packaging alone. :/

  18. Colleen b says:

the shadow colors are all so pretty! i love the packaging too.
