I <3 Matte is Wet n Wild’s newest addition to their Color Icon line and features 8 matte eye shadows. You can also see full photos and reviews for the other 3 palettes in the Color Icon line: Blue Had Me at Hello, Comfort Zone, and Petal Pusher.
This palette comes in a plastic compact with a clear, flip-up top that snaps shut. The palette is lightweight and good for traveling with.
These shadows are all soft, strongly pigmented, and apply evenly.
The shimmery colors in other Color Icon palettes are a little more soft, but for matte formula colors, I am extremely impressed at how soft to the touch these shadows are. They are intensely colored and blow many high-end matte shadows out of the water.
The blue and purple colors, to be fair, are not completely matte. They seem to have very tiny shimmers in them. The white and black colors could also be a little more intense, but at this point I’m nit-picking. These are more powdery than higher-end shadows, though, so expect fallout.
I also appreciate that half the palette provides bright colors and the other half provides neutrals. This combination makes the palette versatile.
The biggest negative about this palette has nothing to do with the shadows themselves. The double-ended brush that comes with this palette has a sponge applicator on one end and a slanted brush on the other. The sponge applicator is like most others, but the brush is very low quality and I can’t see it being used for any type of application effectively.
Ease of Use: 9.75/10
These shadows go on smoothly and evenly. You don’t even need to layer them to build up the color–a rarity when it comes to matte shadows. Be mindful of fallout, since these are on the powdery side.
8 shadows for $5?? You are absolutely getting more than you pay for.
