Exclusive to YSL, the amplified helix brush provides instant volume to the lashes. The slim brush design allows for perfect control and precision and the off-center twist enhances length and curl. The beautifully creamy formula with pro-vitamin B5 coats each lash evenly, creating a thick and lustrous fringe with a wet look.
YSL’s newest Volume Effect Faux Cils “Shocking” mascara is available in 6 different shades. The color Black Bronze is reviewed, below.
This mascara comes in a gold plastic tube. The brush is thin and has short, soft bristles.
The formula for Shocking’s mascara is pretty standard. On the watery-to-dry spectrum, it leans on the watery side. It defines and lengthens somewhat but causes slight clumping and doesn’t volumize.
For being marketed so heavily as a volumizing mascara, the effects you get are pretty average. In fact, the only thing shocking about this product is that YSL has added fragrance to it. Worse, the fragrance isn’t pleasant. Luckily, mascara goes on the lashes, away from an area of the face where you’d smell it. Still, there’s no reason to put fragrance in a product that goes on your eye, especially because fragrances cause irritation to the skin.
The color Black Bronze is a unique pairing of medium-black with tiny golden shimmers. Unfortunately, it appears simply as a medium-black on the lashes and, practically speaking, the golden specks aren’t visible to others.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
The thin brush helps keep the mascara from hitting any other part of the eye but the lashes. But you will see clumping, especially upon layering.
For $30.00 you get 0.2 ounces of mascara. Even compared to MAC mascaras, this is very expensive for the amount of product you get.
