WalMart will be launching a new beauty line targeted at “tweens” (8-12 year olds) called GeoGirl. This line will replace the Mary-Kate and Ashley cosmetics line. The GeoGirl line will include a total of 69 makeup and skincare items, all in “eco-friendly,” recyclable packaging. The products are also supposed to be formulated with “natural” ingredients and will be paraben, phthalates and sulfate free; use of synthetic colors and fragrances will be avoided. Geogirl.com will have how-to videos for its viewers and will also donate part of the profits to charities chosen by its young consumers.
The products are named after texting phrases like “GR8″ (great) and “FYEO” (for your eyes only). The prices are under $6.
I think the idea of encouraging young people to be eco-conscious and formulating products to avoid irritating ingredients is great. What do you think?
