This review is for Lumene’s Sensitive Touch Gentle Cleansing Wipes, which are cloth wipes that the company says will remove makeup without irritating the skin.
Lumene’s Gentle Cleansing Wipes are made of a cloth material that is quite thin. I’m a regular user of Kirkland’s Daily Facial Cleansing Towelettes and I noticed how thin Lumene’s wipes are in comparison. I didn’t have any problems with the cloth tearing or breaking on me during removal, though.
I also noticed that these wipes don’t hold a lot of water, likely because they are so thin. I turned over the packaging so that more water would soak into the wipes at the top of the stack, but doing so didn’t make the wipes that much more saturated. Consequently, I felt I had to press harder to remove makeup than I need to when I use Kirkland’s wipes.
These wipes effectively remove foundation and shadow. If you wear waterproof mascara, though, you’ll need to use a more heavy-duty remover than Lumene’s wipes can provide.
What I like about Lumene’s wipes, though, is that they don’t contain any fragrance or alcohol. Kirkland’s wipes contain fragrance, which makes them smell pleasant, but isn’t good for the skin. Kirkland’s wipes also irritate my eyes and skin sometimes. Lumene’s wipes don’t. So if you have “sensitive” skin, these are a great choice.
For $6.99 you get 25 cloths (which effectively means 25 uses). This price seems cheap, but it’s not actually a great deal compared to buying baby wipes or makeup removing cloths in bulk. That said, if you’re someone who only occasionally uses a cloth remover or if you’re looking for something to travel with, Lumene’s pack of removers is a solid choice. The packaging is flexible and has a re-usable sticky tab that keeps the cloths inside moist. It’s a product you could throw in your luggage knowing it will withstand the trip.
