Nourish is an organic body products brand that makes its product in five (5) scents. Nourish’s deodorants are formulated without parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, artificial fragrances or preservatives, silicones, propylene glycol, mineral oils, sulfates, synthetic dyes, triclosan, edta, or aluminum. They are certified USDA organic and are made in the US. This review is for the Organic Deodorant in the Fresh Fig scent.
This deodorant comes in standard packaging. The tube is oval-shaped, made of plastic, twists via a dial at the base, and has a slip-off cap. The product itself is a solid, pale yellow shade.
Fresh Fig has a sweet fig scent, but the sweetness isn’t at all overwhelming or sickly. I’m quite sensitive to sweet scents, and this deodorant doesn’t give me a headache. I actually think it’s a very pleasant-smelling, natural scent.
The formula takes a good amount of warming up before it will slide over the skin during application. I also found that after the first use, the surface of the stick became rough to the touch and developed little spheres (I think from the oil ingredients) that you can feel during application. The deodorant itself also has sort of a waxy texture that you can feel during the first 10 minutes of wear.
This deodorant doesn’t heed off odor for as long as I’d prefer. I’ve reserved using this particular deodorant for before going to bed or if I know I’m only going to wear it for a few hours. While the other non-organic deodorants I use on a regular basis last for a good 8-9 hours, I find that Fresh Fig only really does its job well for the first few hours of wear. I don’t have a lot of experience with organic deodorants, so this may be typical of organic deodorants, given the types of ingredients they have to rely on and the exclusion of other ingredients that would otherwise inhibit the odor cause by bacteria on your skin (sorry to get gross, but that’s the science behind it all!).
In the end, I like the Fresh Fig scent, and I appreciate brands that strive to eliminate the use of potentially harmful ingredients. But unless you are able to re-apply this product every few hours, don’t expect this deodorant to keep odor at bay for the whole day.
