Company’s Description

Get beautiful precision color that lasts for hours with this pigment rich lip stain marker. The pen-like tip lets you draw on color easily for a streak & smudge free professional look. Infused with nourishing Vitamin E to hydrate and moisturize lips.

e.l.f.’s new lip stains come in 4 shades and are part of the company’s Essential line. This review is for the shade Crimson Crush–a bright, classic red.

Packaging: 9/10

This lip stain comes in a plastic pen-like tube with a snap-on cap and pointed applicator. This packaging’s plastic is softer than what you find with other lip stains.

Quality: 6/10

Crimson Crush initially applies in a bright layer. But as the color sets into the skin, it becomes weaker and less intense, kind of like the way watercolors set and fade on paper. I have to go over certain areas of my lips to try to build up and even out the color because of its uneven and splotchy application.

The formula doesn’t dry out the lips, which is a big advantage marker lip stains have over other cream formula lip stains that require you to apply a balm or gloss on top of the color. The product also has no smell.

The stain has very weak staying power. Even with no drinking or eating (and no balm on top), the color faded after just one (1) hour of wear. Without diligent application of a balm on top, this lip stain becomes splotchier and fades within and after the first hour of wear.

Ease of Use: 6/10

What makes this product less than ideal for application is the significantly smaller marker tip. It takes more time to cover you lips with the product and it’s more difficult to get an even layer of color.

The most frustrating thing about this product is the seeming inability to get a nice, smooth surface of color on the lips. You will get a streaky application even after exfoliating the lips.

Price: 9.75/10

For $2.00 you get 0.078 ounces (2.2 grams) of lip stain. This product contains less than you get with other drugstore lip stains, but it also costs drastically less.

Yeah, this stuff’s not so great. I tried it on my quest to find a good lip stain. I really hated how it applied unevenly and built up weird. If you haven’t tried it yet, I would suggest trying lipsense. Seriously it beat every other lipstain in my own personal test. Great coverage, wide variety of colors, lasts (on me for 7 hours), and when u put their gloss on top, so moisturizing. Sometimes u have to spend a little more to get a good product.
