Review & Swatches: Etude House Dear Darling Tint in No. 2 “Real Red”

Etude House Dear Darling Tint in No. 2 Real Red

Company’s Description

Jelly texture adheres to lips without fading. Natural, vivid lip color. Long lasting lip moisture.

A friend of mine recently got back from a trip to Korea and Japan. And, to my delight, she brought back a bag of makeup goodies! That, of course, meant that I would be adding to the Globetrotting series of reviews!

Etude House is a Korean makeup brand. This review is for its Dear Darling Tint, which comes in three (3) shades. The shade tested and shown in this review is No. 2 Real Red.

Packaging: 9/10

This lip tint comes in a clear, vase-shaped, plastic tube. The handle twists off and is attached to a slanted doe-foot applicator.

Quality: 9.5/10

Real Red appears just as its name sounds: as a true, striking red color without any shimmer. The color is perfectly pigmented: it’s strong but translucent. The color doesn’t appear completely even (despite exfoliating before application) and will show up a little deeper on the inner section of the lips. But the unevenness is not too noticeable.

The formula for this product is thicker than your typical gel. Etude House describes it as a “jelly,” which I think effectively communicates the fact that this tint has more body to it than a gel formula would. The tint also has a sweet, Jell-O scent to it that a sensitive nose may pick up on, even after application.

The formula applies to the lips like a gel, but gives the lips more moisture because of the thicker consistency. After a short time, the product dries but still leaves a sort of film on the lips, continuing to hold in moisture.

One of my all-time favorite lip tints is the The Body Shop’s Lip & Cheek Stain, which I have been using for many years now. Compared to that, Etude House’s Dear Darling Tint has much stronger color and lasts much, much longer. In fact, this is probably the longest wearing lip tint I’ve tried. The color goes strong for a good three (3) hours, even with drinking and eating. The gel sinks into the lips, so the tint doesn’t transfer the way a traditional lip product would. If you keep a clear balm or gloss applied on top of this product, it can last even longer. And, even after the three (3) or four (4) hour mark, your lips still retain pigment. The color fades progressively over the hours.

Ease of Use: 9/10

The formula for this lip product glides effortlessly over the skin. The doe-foot applicator leaves a sharper line than I personally prefer, so I blend out the outer line of my lips with my finger. You also don’t need to re-dip the applicator in order to cover your lips with the product.
