This review is for the 4 new Artistic Pigments releasing with FaceFront’s upcoming Paradise in Flight Collection. This post includes photographs and swatches of the following colors:
- Lotsa Lettuce: Gilded minty green with yellow undertones throughout and subtle sparks of gold and silver shimmer
- Flamingo Disco: Fluffy, “cotton-candy” pink with multi-reflective green and silver metallic elements
- Motivate Me Medium toned violet made complicated with pink and silver sheen upon application
- Toucan Tango: Vivacious golden-citrus orange intermixed with chromatic hues of yellow and gold
These pigments come in plastic jars that have twist-off tops and sifters inside. The packaging is lightweight and the tops fit securely, making these good for putting in your makeup case. The sifters’ openings are designed such that you don’t get too much product dispensing at one time.
Lotsa Lettuce is a light shamrock green with silver sparkles. Flamingo Disco is an icy, pale pink with silver sparkles. Motivate Me is a medium lavender with lighter purple and blue sparkles. Toucan Tango is a bold tangerine with gold sparkles.
All 4 colors are saturated with shimmer and give off absolutely gorgeous finishes. The shimmers are evenly mixed throughout the pigment and adhere very well to the skin. All 4 colors also have good color payoff and pigmentation.
Toucan Tango is the most impressive pigment; it is the most vibrant and leaves an opaque finish. Lotsa Lettuce and Flamingo Disco aren’t far behind, both leaving even, almost-opaque finishes. Motivate Me is a little less impressive because it’s somewhat uneven in finish and requires layering.
Artistic Pigments can also be applied wet. When foiled, the colors deepen slightly and the finishes becomes more metallic. Instead of seeing the glitters as distinct from the colored part of the pigment, the shimmer and color mix together into a cohesive layer on the skin.
I also tried applying these over a base, using NYX’s Eye Shadow Base in White Pearl. This intensified the finishes even more and deepened the color slightly (compared to foiling). Motivate Me also performed much better when swatched over a base, giving off an even finish.
These are probably my favorite items in the Paradise in Flight collection. I’ve never quite seen a pigment so saturated with shimmer as Flamingo Disco. The colors are gorgeous.
Ease of Use: 9.25/10
You can use these pigments both wet and dry. They go on smoothly, can be layered, and blend easily. Motivate Me should be used over a base or layered to even out the finish.
I will caution that the shimmers get everywhere. So keep the jars away from non-shimmery products and be prepared to wash your hands after using these colors and before doing the rest of your makeup.
The pigments are $10.50 each and contain 5 grams of product. MAC pigments are $20.00 and contain 4.5 grams. FaceFront’s pigments give you more product for about half the price.
