Review & Swatches: Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in “Liv’s Lips”

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Liv’s Lips

Availability: Sephora
Price: $30.00

Company’s Description

This natural color-enhancer brings a touch of dark mystery for feminine and romantic lips. Its pigments react with the skin’s pH, thus its color evolves differently on each woman. The stick looks black, but always leaves a transparent bitten effect.

This review is for Givenchy’s limited-edition Interdit Lipstick, which was released with the Lively collection, inspired by Liv Tyler. The shade is said to tint your lips for a “bitten” effect.

Packaging: 9.75/10

This lipstick comes in a round, silver tube embossed with a geometric design. The outer tube is rectangular and is made of reflective black plastic. This packaging is high-quality, luxurious, and light-weight.

Quality: 8.5/10

Though the tube looks black, the color of this lipstick is a transparent blackberry color. Once applied, the lipstick slightly deepens the color of my lips. Layering the product further deepens the shade, but the color always remains transparent, allowing the texture and color of your lips show through.

The formula for the lipstick is very emollient–just like a lip balm. The product will keep your lips hydrated and soft.

The wear-time is similar to a chapstick: about two (2) hours of wear before you need to re-apply.

I don’t have much to say about Givenchy’s claim that this product reacts to your skin’s pH. This gimmick has been around for a while, and it’s nothing but that: a gimmick. The color will look pretty much the same on everyone and the differences in how it looks will be determined by your skin color, lip color, hair color, and the like–not by some magical property of the formula.

Ease of Use: 10/10

Because of the translucent nature of this shade, it’s very easy to wear. The balm-like formula glides across the skin without tugging or skipping.

Price: 9/10

For $30.00 you get 0.12 ounces (3.5 grams) of product. This is the expected amount of product out of a lipstick, and is actually within the lower end of the price-range for high-end brand lipsticks. That said, this product is more like a lip balm than a lipstick.

Hi, I unfortunately missed out on this product too, as only discovered it about two months after it came out and was already sold out. I tried desperately to find it in stores or on eBay. And even sent an email to Givenchy cosmetics to bring it back. No luck either way, but I did want to share a lip color I discovered recently that might come close to Liv’s Lips #62. It is the Rain or Shine Lip Tint by Origins in SHERRY BABY, which costs only $16.50 and available as a permanent shade on their line . It is not at all like Black Honey by Clinique, which I find is a more reddish brown sheer color. I personally love if and wanted to share this with everyone who missed out on the limited edition Givenchy. Hope it helps!
