Illamasqua Medium Pencil in Hex

Availability: Sephora
Price: $20.00

Company’s Description

A highly pigmented pencil allowing for easy blending with a long-wearing hold. Designed to glide over skin and create a long-lasting, color-true finish, this creamy pencil lets you write a different story with every look. Use it to create sultry eyes and sensuous lips.

Illamasqua’s Medium Pencils can be used as lip or eye liners and come in eleven (11) shades. This review is for the Medium Pencil in Hex, which is a soft biscuit nude color.

Packaging: 9/10

This product comes in a standard wood pencil that will need to be sharpened as you use up the product.

Quality: 8.75/10

Hex is a medium nude color, equivalent to NC25 skin.

The formula has some softness to it. It’s not stiff or rough on the skin, but is also not as soft as, say, Stila’s Kajal Eye Liners. This means that the pencil transfers without too much tugging or skipping when applied to the lash line. You can also use the pencil in the waterline, but it doesn’t last for very long and doesn’t transfer onto the skin as well.

This pencil is also great for concealing areas of discoloration or small spots, as long as your skin color is in the NC20-25 range. You can use the pencil under the brow-bone as a highlight, around the lips to conceal or make a more crisp line around a lip color, or on the lips to blank them out.

The pencil is long-wearing on the lash-line and won’t fade or smudge during the day.

Ease of Use: 8.75/10

The pencil’s slight softness makes it transfer well onto the skin, both on the lash-line and on the face or lips. It doesn’t transfer as well onto the waterline and will pull a little if you apply it all over the lips.

Price: 9/10

For $20.00 you get 0.05 ounces of product. This is an expected amount of product and price-point for a brand like Illamasqua.

  3. Tina says:

I’m looking for something comparable to this in a drugstore brand that works well in the waterline, any suggestions?

    • Allura says:

Hi Tina. I don’t know of any drugstore liners that are in this similar nude shade. But if you’re ok with other shades, try Milani’s Liquif’Eye or Revlon ColorStay liners for the water-line.
