Review & Swatches: LORAC PRO Mascara

LORAC Pro Mascara

Availability: ULTA, Sephora
Price: $23.00

Company’s Description

This lengthening and thickening professional formula is smudge-resistant, flake-proof, and delivers extra-long, ultra-thick and extremely dramatic lashes with each lash-extending buildable coat. The super-size jumbo PRO Brush easily grabs each lash from root to tip and corner to corner for a luxurious faux-lash look.

This review is for LORAC’s new PRO Mascara, which is part of the Sweet Temptations Collection. This mascara comes in the color black is supposed to both lengthen and thicken while being smudge-resistant and flake-proof.

Packaging: 9/10

This mascara comes in a black, cylindrical, plastic tube. The tube is larger than almost any other mascara packaging. The mascara comes with a teardrop-shaped brush made of synthetic bristles.

Quality: 9/10

The formula for this mascara is neither watery nor thick. The formula is also very soft and doesn’t make your lashes crunchy, even after the product has fully dried. Usually, if you apply a couple of coats of a mascara and then try to touch up your lashes later in the day, you get spidery-looking lashes because you are applying mascara on top of dried out mascara. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I didn’t get this effect with LORAC’s PRO Mascara. The third coat, which I applied in the middle of the day after applying two (2) coats in the morning, went on as if I’d applied it along with the first two (2) coats. (The picture, below, is what my lashes looked like after applying the third coat in the middle of the day.)

The brush for this mascara is enormous. Compared to Maybelline’s Colossal Mascara brush, which itself is quite plush, the LORAC PRO brush is noticeably larger.

The formula wore quite well through the day. I didn’t see any black flakes on my skin as a result of the mascara shedding and I only saw a tiny bit of smudging along the lower lash-line (which happens with almost all mascaras I’ve tested, except for waterproof formulas). My lashes still felt soft at the end of the day, even after over eight (8) hours of wear.

This mascara does a nice job of lengthening the lashes. It also extends them outward, which most mascaras (even lengthening ones) don’t do. A mascara usually pulls your lashes upward to give them length, but the PRO Mascara is unique in that it pulls the lashes up and out. Contrary to the company’s claims, though, I don’t see a lot of volume with this mascara, even after three (3) coats.

Ease of Use: 8.75/10

The enormous size of the brush means you have to be careful when using this mascara. Luckily, with slower application, I didn’t experience any problems with the brush scraping or smudging onto my eye area. The end of the wand also pulls out a glob of mascara when you take the brush out of the tube. You’ll either want to scrape that off, or be careful near the inner corners of your eyes to make sure you don’t get mascara on them.

The brush is teardrop-shaped, so the tip of the brush is much more narrow than the base of the brush. You can reverse the direction of the brush to get the narrow end to cover the outer lashes, and vice-versa.

Price: 9.25/10

For $23.00 you get 0.53 ounces (15.12 grams) of product. Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara, Laura Mercier’s Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara, BareMinerals’ Flawless Definition Mascara, and Make Up For Ever’s Smoky Lash Mascara all cost more per ounce of product than LORAC’s PRO Mascara.
