L’Oreal’s Infallible Eyeshadows contain ultra concentrated colour pigments, for an intense colour finish. Additional binders (oils) coat and magnify the colour pigments revealing beautiful shimmer and maximized colour. The colour adheres to the eyelid as durably and comfortably as a second skin and lasts for up to 24hrs. With a formulation that lies between the comfort of a cream and the ease of application of a powder, infallible eyeshadow melts gently from the fingertips to the eye lid on application. The result is a luxurious, velvety texture. Infallible Eyeshadow provides sweatproof, waterproof, crease resistant wear with velvet-soft texture that blends easily, providing luminous color with a smooth, even finish.
L’Oreal’s Infallible Eyeshadows are now available in over 2 dozen shades. L’Oreal claims that this eyeshadow will be intense, sweatproof, waterproof, crease resistant, and will last 24 hours. This review is for the shade Sultry Smoke–a matte, slate blue.
The Infallible Eyeshadows come in plastic jars that are clear on the bottom to allow you to see the color inside. The caps twist off. Inside, you’ll find a stopper that keeps the shadow underneath in place.
Sultry Smoke is, as the name suggests, a very sultry color. It’s blue, but has a strong grey base, so it’s completely wearable for daytime. It’s equally wearable for a night-time look. You can use this color alone to create a beautiful smokey eye look by buffing it into the crease and layering it on the lid.
The shade is pigmented and applies fairly smoothly, though it’s not opaque. The formula feels like a powder with a little bit of humidity to it. It doesn’t quite feel mousse-like or bouncy the way MAC’s Electric Cool eye shadows or Maybelline’s Dram Bouncy Blushes do. The formula blends easily and can be used either dry or wet.
The shadow wore pretty well throughout the day. I did see a small amount of creasing after 3.5 hours. The creasing stayed slight until about 7 hours, after which the creasing increased. I actually didn’t find a difference in either color-payoff or crease-resistance when I wore this shade over primer as opposed to over bare skin.
Of course, L’Oreal’s 24-hour claim is over-blown, and you’d hopefully not be wearing any makeup product for 24-hours straight anyway. I wish companies would stop making such outrageous claims.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
For applying this color in the crease, I did find myself spending a little bit of extra time buffing to make sure the color was even. On the lid, though, it’s easy to control how sheer or strong you want the color by using either a fluffy or dense brush and by applying layers.
For about $8.00 you get 0.12 ounces (3.5 grams) of product. This product contains more than your average amount of eyeshadow compared to other drugstore-brand shadows, but it’s also on the slightly higher side of the price spectrum for a single shadow.
