Play with polka dots to create highlighting effects on your eyes by blending the colours of this ultra-fine, lightweight pressed powder with a velvet-smooth finish.
This review is for Powder to the People, which releases with MAC’s upcoming Beth Ditto Collection.
This powder comes in a traditional MAC compact with a see-through lid.
First, I want to disclose that I’m a bit confused by this product, so if my review seems a bit obscure, I apologize.
MAC’s description for Powder to the People suggests you use it on the eyes for a “highlighting” effect. I’m not sure what this means. What I am sure about is 2 things:
First, these colors are not strongly pigmented or opaque. Each color in the pan will give you a wash of color that can be built up a little by layering.
Second, the powder’s formula is smooth and applies evenly. If you’re aiming for a wash of color, then go with this powder because the formula is perfectly fine.
If it weren’t for MAC’s suggestion that this is an eye product, I would have guessed it was intended for the face (despite the bright blue dots in the pan). When I recorded the video for this collection, I thought the blue didn’t show up once the powder’s colors were all mixed together. But when I finished recording and looked at the swatch directly (instead of through the camera screen), I could see that the blue tint made the otherwise peachy-nude swatch look sickly. You can see in the photo, below, that the mixed color isn’t very flattering. So unless you’re willing to work your brush around the blue dots and want a subtle, nude-peach color on the cheeks, I wouldn’t bother buying this for the face.
Ease of Use: 8/10
Some may find the polka-dot design cute, but it’s inconvenient to work with. You have to carefully maneuver your brush around the different dots to pick up the pink, or confine your brush to teeny-tiny strokes to pick up the colors within the small dots.
For $38.00 you get 10 grams of product. This price-to-product ratio is similar to the Street Art Eye Shadow powder that released with MAC’s Art of Powder collection.
