A soft, lightweight, springy formula delivers hue-rich colour in a modern mode. One touch and you’ll be wired into its sensational blending power. Medium-to-high coverage transforms eyes. Use the 249 Large Shader Brush to provide pro-quality pick-up and distribution.
MAC’s Electric Cool Collection introduces a new eye shadow formula in 12 limited edition shades. This review is for the shade Love Power, which MAC describes as a soft, shimmering rose.
Unlike MAC’s standard powder shadows, the Electric Cool shadows come in a slightly glossier compact with a twist-off lid.
Love Power is a soft, icy pink with a silver sheen.
MAC claims that this formula is soft, lightweight, and springy. The consistency is similar to Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blushes. The shadow is soft to the touch, like a pillow. It will deform under the pressure of a brush.
MAC also claims the color will be hue-rich and gives medium-to-high coverage. I found that this color gives light-to-medium coverage. You certainly won’t get a dense or opaque application of color with Love Power. I also found that this shades applies in a more clumpy fashion than the other shades, even when I used a short-stroked, pressing motion. The shade actually applies more smoothly over bare skin than it does over a base.
while the other colors in this collection look pretty much the same when applied over a primer as they do on bare skin, Love Power was an outlier because it is noticeably more pink when applied over a primer. Over bare skin, it’s a frostier, more silver color.
Finally, MAC states that the shadow has “sensational” blending power. I don’t know about “sensational,” but the color does blend nicely into the crease.
Like with Pure Flash!, Love Power began to collect a little in the crease area near the inner corner after less than an hour of wear. The color also lost just a bit of vibrancy, starting after the first 1.5 hours of wear. The color holds up better over a primer, maintaining its vibrancy. But the shadow does a good job of not creasing. Even without primer, it didn’t crease for the first 3.5 hours. With primer, it held up for 7.5 hours before creasing.
Ease of Use: 8.75/10
If you want to use a primer, I’d suggest applying Love Power in very small sections to avoid a patchy finish. Otherwise, the color blends fine into the crease and doesn’t produce fall-out.
MAC’s standard eye shadows cost $15.00 and contain 1.5 grams of product. The Electric Cool shadows cost $18.50 and contain 2.1 (0.07 ounces) of shadow. Despite the higher price, you’re getting a better deal with the Electric Cool shadows because of the amount of product you get.
