Packaging: 9/10

Unlike MAC’s standard powder shadows, the Electric Cool shadows come in a slightly glossier compact with a twist-off lid.

Quality: 8/10

Switch to Blue is as MAC describes: a rich, cobalt blue with blue shimmer.

MAC claims that this formula is soft, lightweight, and springy. The consistency is similar to Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blushes. The shadow is soft to the touch, like a pillow. It will deform under the pressure of a brush.

MAC also claims the color will be hue-rich and gives medium-to-high coverage. This color has good pigmentation and color pay-off, but isn’t as “electric” as the other colors in the collection. It also won’t give you opaque coverage, but can leave medium coverage if you layer the shadow.

Finally, MAC states that the shadow has “sensational” blending power. This isn’t true for Switch to Blue. The color doesn’t retain its vibrancy or color when you blend it into the crease.

Also, the color faded from the crease area in under an hour when applied over bare skin. It also began to fade from the lid after about 1.5 hours. Using a primer does alleviate the creasing and fading, but it’s still disappointing that this color performs noticeably worse than the other Electric Cool eye shadow shades.

Ease of Use: 8.5/10

Switch to Blue applies with good color payoff, but you’ll be somewhat frustrated by the color you get when blending it into the crease. You’ll also definitely want to use a base or primer with this color because of the quick creasing and fading you’ll get without one.

Price: 9.25/10

MAC’s standard eye shadows cost $15.00 and contain 1.5 grams of product. The Electric Cool shadows cost $18.50 and contain 2.1 (0.07 ounces) of shadow. Despite the higher price, you’re getting a better deal with the Electric Cool shadows because of the amount of product you get.

I’m really surprised that these are getting such high ratings! I have read in other reviews that they were received cracked, warped, and pulling away from the pan, and it looks like some of yours were, based on the photos. It’s probably not a big deal for some (and from what I gather you prefer to de-pot, so this is probably true for you), but I’d be upset if I paid $18.50 for an eyeshadow and it came looking like that!

Well, first, that’s not a factor that goes to quality. That’s more of a packaging defect. I don’t complain about it looking deformed, because it’s a sponge-like formula, so it’s naturally going to deform no matter what you do. As for the packaging, I don’t count the fact that some of them came cracked or out of the pan against the individual shade, because that has nothing to do with that shade. While my Switch to Blue might be cracked and my Superwatt might look perfect, it will be totally different for you depending on what package you get.

I am doing a comprehensive review of the collection after the individual reviews are done. I will factor the packaging defects into that review, but not here in the individual reviews.

Also, I just want to point out that this did not get a high rating. 🙂 It got a B- in terms of quality, though overall it has a B rating since the price is a good deal.
