A lightly frosted, tinted powder that gives skin sheer, natural colour effects and highlights. Ideal to enhance and strengthen a tan. Packaged in blue and white stripes, it’s a match to everything Hey, Sailor!
This review is for the new limited-edition Bronzing Powder in Soft Sand, which releases with MAC’s upcoming Hey, Sailor! Collection. This post includes photographs and swatches:
- Soft Sand: Golden bronze with fine gold pearl
The Bronzing Powder in Refined Gold (Refined Golden) is also included in this collection, but is a permanent color. So you can buy it at any time, and for less money!
These powders come in standard MAC packaging except that it is decorated with blue nautical stripes. These plastic compacts have flip-up, snap-shut lids with mirrors inside and can easily be taken on-the-go.
Soft Sand is a neutral tan color that leans very slightly yellow. There are super-tiny gold shimmers in the pan that don’t show up noticeably on the skin, so you could still use this color for contouring if you wanted. I don’t think this color would show up on skin darker than NC/NW35.
The formula is a bit stiff in the pan, so you have to press your brush into the pan more than you normally would. You also, for the same reason, you have to apply several layers. Otherwise, the color doesn’t show.
This bronzer lasts a good 6-7 hours on my skin before fading slightly.
Ease of Use: 8.5/10
This bronzer takes a bit of work because of its stiff formula. So expect to layer and apply more pressure on the pan to pick up the color.
This bronzer contains 10 grams and costs $24.00. Normal MAC bronzing powders are $23.00; the price increase is due to the limited-edition packaging.
