Company’s Description
A liquid-powder highlighter with prismatic reflections that sculpts, highlights and models the face. The cool, creamy near-fluid formula creates a luminous, well-defined finish. Wears 10 hours.
This review is for the 3 new highlighters releasing with MAC’s In Extra Dimension Collection. This post includes photographs and swatches of the following colors:
- Whisper Of Gilt: Light soft white gold with shimmery sheen
- Superb: Soft peach nude with multi-dimensional shimmer
- Glorify: Copper golden shimmer
Packaging: 9.25/10
These highlighters come in standard MAC packaging and are the same size as MAC Mineralize Skinfinish compacts. The compacts are plastic and come with snap-shut, flip-up tops. The pans have the MAC logo and a wave design embossed on them.
Quality: 10/10
Whisper Of Gilt is a pale gold best suited for lighter skin tones. Superb is a more pink-based nude color and would probably suit the widest range of skin colors out of the 3 highlighters. Glorify is an intense bronze color that would look beautiful on dark skin and is perfect as a shimmery bronzer for Summer.
Extra Dimension highlighters come in a new cream-to-powder-like formula. You can feel in the pan that these have more “humidity” than regular powders and are slightly softer. I was skeptical at first at MAC coming out with a brand new formula, but I have to admit: I think these are the most beautiful highlighters MAC has ever made.
The powder glides onto the skin effortlessly, leaving an even surface of incredibly finely-milled shimmer. The effect on the skin is refined and intense without being overwhelming. You can layer the powder and quickly build up the intensity of the shine.
Even better, these blend like butter. I’ve used them alongside blush and while I usually have to take an extra step to blend my highlighter into my blush to get rid of a demarcating line between them, I don’t have to do that with these highlighters.
MAC claims that these highlighters last 10 hours, which holds true. The formula doesn’t fade or flake off and (I suspect because of the more water-based formula) adheres nicely to the skin.
Ease of Use: 10/10
These are a dream to use. At first, I thought the powder wasn’t transferring well onto the brush, but when I applied the product, the powder went on evenly and smoothly with very little effort. And they blend out wonderfully too!
Price: 8.75/10
For $29.00 you get 9 grams (0.31 ounces) of product. MAC’s Lightscapade costs also costs $29.00 and contains 10 grams of product, so you’re getting a little less for your money with the In Extra Dimension Highlighters.
Allura, you think trace gold can be used as whisper of gilt and sunbasque used as superb?
Whisper of Gilt is lighter than Trace Gold and Sunbaque is a lot more orange than Superb. I don’t think the colors match up. The formulas are also different.
Thanks so much, and i have one last question to be sure. I’m nw15 do you think they look good on my pale skin tone?
Try the lightest one.
Oh wow…I really want these too! If these are as good as they look I won’t even bother with my MSFs anymore!
Lightscapade gives a much milder shimmer. Soft & Gentle’s shimmers are much chunkier (not a fan of S&G).
Wow ten hours! I really want these
I’m pretty sure I want everything in this collection.
These look really nice! I have a question though. Do you know how Superb compares to Estee Lauder’s Modern Mercury powder gelee? Or to the Laura Mercier Rose Rendevouz (think thats how you spell it lol)
Thanks!
Wow, the swatches are beautiful! I might just get these! Can’t wait to read your review!
