This remarkable technology yields a waterclear, featherweight product that diffuses the look of pores and fine lines, helps makeup last and last, and helps protect your makeup look. Mally’s Evercolor Poreless Face Defender is a non-powder product that claims to mattify your skin without creating a powdery finish. See how well it works, below!
The actual product comes in a large, square compact with a snap-shut lid and a mirror inside. The product sits in a well inside the compact and has a clear, flat surface. This product also comes with a humongous sponge that is about 1.5 inches thick.
The company claims this product will do several things: diffuse pores and fine lines, make makeup last, and mattify without a powdery look.
I can’t really speak to the diminishing of fine lines and pores. I did notice and overall slight diffusing quality, but I don’t have enough fine lines (I will soon, though!) or large pores to really test this claim.
But there’s no doubt that this product gives you a matte finish. It utilizes Dimethicone and Silica to give the skin slip and to mattify the surface.
I applied the product with the included sponge by dabbing it on the pan and then patting it on top of my makeup. I had been wearing my makeup for about 7-8 hours and had not blotted throughout the day (normally, I will blot 1-2 times during the day). Before using this product, my skin was shiny. Afterwards, the shininess was gone.
The phenomenal thing about this product is that it leaves a matte finish that is beautiful: like the company claims, it’s not powdery or cakey. I will say that you need to dab the product into the skin sufficiently, otherwise you can see the gel-like texture up close.
What’s even better is that this product is quite effective at keeping the skin matte. While most powders instantly reduce shininess when you apply them, they don’t keep the face matte. The Poreless Face Defender kept my skin matte for at least 3 hours after applying it, without any signs of increasing oiliness (I washed my makeup off after the 3-hour mark).
My biggest word of caution concerns using the included sponge. The quality of the sponge is great–it applies the product such that you don’t apply too much and it presses into the skin, leaving an invisible surface. But you shouldn’t dip any part of this sponge into the pan more than once. If you do, you’re contaminating the product with the oils and bacteria on your skin. Rather, you should use a clean sponge each time you use this product and make sure not to double-dip. This can be a bit inconvenient to do.
Ease of Use: 9.75/10
This product is extremely easy to use. You simply dab the product onto the surface of your skin. Application is very quick. Just remember to not double-dip your sponge!
For $40.00 you get 13 grams (0.46 ounces) of product. There aren’t many products on the market like this one. NARS’ Skin Smoothing Face Prep is probably the closest. It’s $30.00 for 0.26 ounces. More traditional mattifiers like MUFE’s All Mat costs $47.00 and contains 1.01 ounces.
