Price: $8.00 (Approx.)

Maybelline has just released 8 limited-edition Color Tattoo 24 Hr Eyeshadow shades for the Fall 2012 season. This review is for the shade Blue On By–a bright, shimmering blue.

To see a review, photos, and swatches of the original 10 shades, see this post.

For right now, this shade is available at Target stores. I am guessing the brighter colors in the Fall 2012 collection will become available more widely at drugstore locations shortly., Inc.

Packaging: 9.5/10

These shadows come in glass jars with plastic, twist-off lids. The lids twist off and close tightly to help keep the product from drying out.

Quality: 8.5/10

Blue on By is a richly-pigmented, medium blue with a shimmery but non-glittery finish. The color is almost opaque on the first layer, but you will probably need to dab on a second layer if you don’t want your underlying skin color to show through.

The formula has a smooth, cream consistency. I feel like this formula is slightly more gel-like and maybe a bit silkier than the formula for the original shades, but this impression could be from using some of the matte shades from the permanent line, which weren’t as creamy. The product sets to a dry finish soon after application. As a side-note, the formula will become less creamy after a couple of months. This will happen even if you keep the lid tightly closed.

This shade does a pretty good job when it comes to being long-wearing. The color shows slight signs of creasing after about 4 hours when used without a primer, and after 6 hours when used over primer. The fading of the color, which starts after about 4 hours of wear, is more noticeable with Blue on By than with the other colors in this collection. The color loses a little of its intensity and also becomes a little patchy after 4-5 hours of wear.

You can use this color as a stand-alone eye shadow, underneath a powder shadow, or as a liner.

Ease of Use: 9/10

Because the formula starts off creamy and smooth, the product glides easily over the skin. The color dries quickly, so you need to blend right after application if you plan to use the color in the crease. I did find that this shade requires a bit of buffing when used in the crease. The color becomes patchy upon blending, so you have to apply a little bit of product at a time and apply multiple thin layers before you get an even finish.

Price: 9.5/10

For under $8.00, you get 4 grams of shadow. MAC Paint Pots contain 5 grams of shadow and cost $18.50, while MAC Metal-X Cream Shadows cost $20.00 and contain 2.4 grams. Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows cost $19.00 and contain 4.5 grams.
