Lasting color. Vibrant sheen. Meet the first-ever 10HR stain gloss. Shine enhancing formula glides on lightweight color that won’t dry out.
Maybelline’s newest lipgloss stains come in 10 different shades and are said to last 10 hours. The color 180 Mauve Dream is reviewed, below. You can also see the review for Pink Plush here.
This lip gloss comes in an opaque, plastic tube with a twist-off top that approximates the color inside. The applicator is a tear-drop-shaped doe-foot.
My only gripe about this packaging is that the sticker displaying the name color is so small you’d need a magnifying glass to read it.
Mauve Dream is a medium-to-deep cherry-based berry color with small shimmers that leave an almost metallic surface to the gloss’ finish. The color is wonderfully pigmented and goes on opaquely while somehow still letting your own underlying lip texture show through.
The formula is very thin and very emollient, bringing tons of moisture to your lips. It leaves a beautifully smooth finish with absolutely no stickiness.
For a lip gloss, this product is impressively long-wearing. I saw no color fading after 4 hours (even after drinking coffee!). Even after 6 hours, it really doesn’t need re-application (unless, of course, you eat a big meal and some of it comes off). After 6 hours, the fading is still gradual, effectively giving you all-day wear form a lipgloss. The formula is smudge-resistant and somewhat water-repelling.
Better yet, the formula is so light that you forget you are wearing anything on your lips.
The reason this gloss stain is so impressive is that it stays on the lips and is emollient. Nearly all the other long-wear liquid lip products on the market use a drying effect to make the color stick to the skin. This is why these kinds of products usually come with a balm or clear gloss to apply on top. But Maybelline’s SuperStay 10 Hr Stain Gloss stands on its own–giving your lips moisture and long-wearing lip color.
My only criticism is that this gloss has a very sweet smell. Luckily, it goes away upon application.
Ease of Use: 10/10
Given how strong the color payoff for Mauve Dream is, it is amazingly simple to apply. I attribute the ease of application to the formula, which applies smoothly, evenly, and opaquely, and to the doe-foot applicator, which is shaped to give you precise application at the edges of your lips.
For $8.99 you get 0.12 ounces (3.4 grams) of gloss stain. Revlon’s ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor costs $9.99 and contains 0.14 ounces, only half of which is colored (the other half is a clear top-coat).
