This long-wearing, crease-resistant formula is uniquely paired in dazzling and creative color combinations, expertly coordinated by François Nars. Worn together or alone, these shades are richly pigmented and can be applied sheer or built up for a more dramatic effect. Used wet, these shadows also double as eyeliners.
NARS Duo Eyeshadows include 2 eye shadow colors and come in dozens of shade combinations. The company markets its shadows as richly-pigmented and long-wearing. This review is for the duo Bellissima, which includes a shimmering beige and grey brown.
The NARS Duo Eyeshadow packaging is made of NARS’ classic rubberized black plastic and has a lid with a mirror inside that snaps shut. The outside of the packaging is a magnet for powder products, which makes it difficult to keep clean.
On the left, Bellissima contains a cream color that has a hint of pale beige undertones and contains silver shimmer. On the right, it contains a light, matte taupe.
The pigmentation for both colors is great. The formula is equally good: the powder is soft without being overly dusty or crumbly. I don’t have any problems with fall-out when applying the colors and they transfer onto the skin in an even layer.
These are very easy colors to wear. The taupe blends nicely through the crease and the cream color layers nicely over the lid.
Although the cream color has a good presence of shimmer in the pan, once it’s applied to the lid, the shimmers are quite sparse and don’t adhere strongly to the skin. I also found that, contrary to NARS’ claims, the colors don’t resist creasing and don’t maintain their pigmentation through the day. The shadows creased (even over an Urban Decay primer) after 6 hours. The taupe color faded slightly and the cream color faded significantly, leaving mostly dispersed silver shimmer particles on the lid and little underlying cream color.
Ease of Use: 9.5/10
These shades apply over the skin fairly easily. The taupe blends out with little resistance and the cream shade can be used in a sheer, single layer or in more opaque, multiple layers. I strongly suggest using a primer underneath to help the shadow resist creasing and retain pigmentation for longer.
For $34.00 you get 0.14 ounces (4 grams) of shadow. NARS’ single shadows cost $24.00 and contain half the amount of product, so you are getting a good deal for your money by investing in the Duos.
