Outrageously lustrous color meets serious shine in this NARS gloss. Its stay-in-place dramatic shade glides on smoothly and evenly for lips that are more luminous and voluminous than ever before. Long-lasting, high-shine hues are infused with ingredients that nourish and fight free radicals while natural lip enhancers pump up with volume. A new, shorter bristle brush delivers the most precise application possible. However you want to express yourself, Larger Than Life Lip Gloss says it boldly, brilliantly, and brazenly.
NARS’ Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Rouge Tribal is a new shade released with the Fall 2012 collection. The color is described as a metallic burgundy.
NARS Larger Than Life Lip Glosses come in rectangular, plastic, see-through tubes. The handle is made of the company’s classic rubberized plastic. The brush applicator is very short and narrow.
Rouge Tribal is a very deep burgundy with shimmer that flashes purple, red, and gold. The shimmers look stunning up-close in a swatch of the color, but you unfortunately don’t see the dimension when Rouge Tribal is applied to your lips. You merely see silver and light red shimmer once the shade is applied.
The formula has medium thickness and while the gloss isn’t sticky, it does have body to it and you can feel resistance when you press or rub your lips together. It’s a formula that I don’t love wearing because I’m always aware of it sitting on my skin. Luckily, you won’t feel any uncomfortable grittiness from the shimmer.
Rouge Tribal can be worn in a sheer layer or a thick layer. Personally, I only really like wearing this shade in a very sheer layer. The color is deep, yet not opaque, so it’s difficult to get an even, flattering layer on the surface of the lips.
This gloss, due to its medium-thick consistency, lasts longer than the average gloss–about 2.5-3 hours.
Ease of Use: 8/10
The tiny brush applicator makes getting an even layer of color quite difficult. First, you have to re-dip the brush into the tube several times just to get enough product on the lips. Second, the brush is too small to easily smooth out the product over your lips. Third, the formula doesn’t glide over the lips easily.
The fact that this is such a deep color makes things even more difficult because any lack of product shows up clearly as unevenness.
For $26.00 you get 0.19 ounces of product. With NARS’ regular Lip Glosses, you get about 50% more product for a lower price.
