Serious shine and sexy color in sheer, semi-sheer and creamy formulas. Extremely wearable and versatile shades may be worn alone or over other lip formulas for added dimension.
This review is for NARS’ Lip Gloss in the shade Bougainville, which NARS describes as a pomegranate color. The company also claims that this gloss has high shine and a creamy formula.
NARS’ lip glosses come in plastic, see-through, rectangular tubes. The handles are made of the company’s signature black, rubberized plastic and twist off. A doe-foot applicator is inside.
I adore products that are not only good quality, but are also versatile. It’s great for a product to do one thing well. It’s even better for it to do multiple things well. NARS’ lip gloss in Bougainville is this type of product.
First, the formula has medium thickness but isn’t sticky or even tacky. It has body to it without feeling goopy or heavy. The gloss is very emollient and will keep moisture in your skin. It also leaves behind a slight film that keeps your lips soft even after the gloss has worn off. I know “film” doesn’t sound very flattering, but the texture is not at all unpleasant.
This color can be applied very sheerly for a pigmented, yet translucent effect. Applied in this manner, the color acts much like a stain. You can progressively build up the gloss to get the effect you desire: lightly for a deeper pomegranate tint and slight shine or heavily for more dense (yet still semi-transparent) showing of color and more intense shine. No matter how you apply the gloss, this shade will give you the benefit of a slight stain to the lips even after the gloss has worn off.
The wear time for this lip gloss is about two and a half (2.5) hours and another hour of staining effect after that.
I will note that this gloss has a somewhat unflattering, plastic-like smell to it. It didn’t bother me while wearing the gloss, but it is noticeable.
Ease of Use: 9/10
Bougainville is a strong color, so apply it more slowly around the edges of your lips to get a more precise line. When applying this shade in a heavy manner, you also need to take a little more time blending it at the edges of your lips to get an even effect.
For $24.00 you get 0.28 ounces (8 grams) of product. You get more product per dollar compared to Make Up For Ever’s and Bobbi Brown’s lip glosses.
