Company’s Description

Are you getting both moisture and wear from your lipstick? This velvety soft formula with shea butter and aloe is food-proof and doesn’t quit. Available in 20 suede shades. Apply once and go.

Revlon’s newest lip product is the Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick, which is advertised as being both moisturizing and long-wearing. This review is for the shade Cotoure–a slightly ruby pink with light pink shimmer.

Packaging: 9/10

This lipstick comes in a plastic, cylindrical tube with a clear, snap on cap. The color of the packaging matches that of the lipstick. The base of the packaging twists to push up the bullet inside. The base clicks on the first couple of turns, but doesn’t click after that.

Quality: 8.25/10

Cotoure is a pigmented, but translucent shade with very small pink shimmer particles that you don’t really see once the lipstick is applied. Even if you swipe the bullet across your lips several times, it’s still translucent and a bit of streakiness shows through.

The formula feel just like a balm. It is, initially, moisturizing and emollient on the lips. It feels similar to a lip balm. After about 30 seconds, the lipstick dries, and leaves a hint of a tacky feeling on the surface of your lips. It also loses its moisturizing quality. The formula doesn’t actively dry out your lips, but it will leave your lips wanting moisture if you’re used to wearing chapstick or a lip balm.

This lipstick is not transfer-resistant, but definitely wears longer than your average lipstick formula, which is due to the fact that the formula dries, adhering more strongly to the lips. This shade lasted about three (3) hours on my lips (with fading depending on if I was eating or drinking). After that, it also leaves a stain behind on the skin. The stain doesn’t appear even on the lips, though, so this benefit isn’t as flattering as it could be.

Overall, I think this is a decent lip product that wears longer than normal without being too drying on your lips. But it would be better if it was more moisturizing and if the formula wore more evenly.

Ease of Use: 9/10

Applying this shade is pretty hassle-free because of its translucent quality. The lipstick transfers easily onto the skin without any skipping or tugging. But you do need to swipe the lipstick several times across the lips to get a smooth showing of color. Also avoid rubbing your lips together, as this makes the color on the lips streaky.

Price: 8.75/10

For around $9.00, you get 0.09 ounces (2.55 grams) of product. Maybelline’s SuperStay 14HR Lipstick falls into the same price-point and contains 0.12 ounces (3.3 grams) of product. L’Oreal’s Infallible Le Rouge Lipcolor contains the same amount as Revlon’s ColorStay lipstick and costs the same. Compared to other drugstore brands, this lipstick is definitely at the higher end of the price range.

I think you are generous with your B grade. I wore this today and couldn’t get very even application. Then it dried out my lips and looked horrible as it wore down while I was at church for an hour and wasn’t eating or drinking anything. I’m ready to put mine in the garbage. :)
