Company’s Description

Fall under the spell of the Alchemy of Color Collection, an enchanting collaboration between Pantone Universe and Sephora that marries the hottest shades of the season with exclusive formulation and finish. This double-chambered lipstick is highly pigmented, with a metallic core enveloped in a crystallized, moisturizing lip balm for a multifaceted effect. The formula moisturizes and protects with castor oil and candelilla, while water-resistant polymers lock-in color and hydration. The collection includes a kaleidoscope of vivid colors and a light, peach-mango flavor. Bring the brilliant hues to life as you mix and match to create your own magic.

Sephora has continued into the Fall/Winter 2012 season in its partnership with Pantone Universe. Included in the Fall/Winter line are the Lip Luster Lipsticks, which are a combination of lipstick and lip balm. This product comes in five (5) different shades. This review is for the shade Claret Red–a glittery carnation pink.

Packaging: 9.75/10

I continue to be impressed by the Sephora + Pantone Universe packaging. These lipsticks come in plastic tubes, with clear, snap-on caps and a white inner tube. The base of the lipstick shows the color you get. The lipstick itself has a colored core and a clear outer ring with shimmer particles.

Quality: 8/10

Claret Red has good pigmentation without being solidly opaque or looking like your lips are wearing a mask. The color also contains a multitude of variously-sized shimmer particles, which give the color an overall glittery effect.

The formula is moisturizing due to the balm-like outer ring surrounding the colored core. I didn’t find it drastically more moisturizing then a lot of shimmery-formula lipsticks, though. The wear time was also not exceptional–two (2) to three (3) hours depending on how much you are eating/drinking/talking during that time.

The thing that bothered me the most about this lipstick was the texture. You can definitely feel the gritty glitter particles on your lips, which greatly diminished how much I enjoyed wearing the product.

The lipstick does have a scent to it. I didn’t find it particularly flattering or pleasant, but it certainly wasn’t strong and I don’t think it will be off-putting to most people.

Overall, I’m a little disappointed with this lipstick. The color is good and the wear-time is decent. But I think the packaging is prettier than what you see on the lips, and the very gritty texture was a major turn-off.

Ease of Use: 8.25/10

The formula transfers onto the lips ok, but the clear, outer ring makes application a little awkward. You’re not really sure where the colored inner ring starts, so you’ll find yourself in a little bit of a guessing game when it comes to lining up the colored part of the tube with the outer edge of your lips.

Price: 8.8/10

For $18.00 you get 0.12 ounces of product. This is a typical amount of product included in most lipsticks and is on the higher price end for Sephora lipsticks, but the partnership with Pantone Universe for this line can be expected to be a little more expensive than regular Sephora brand items.
