This review is for the Colour Added eye shadow quad that comes with MAC’s upcoming Shop MAC / Cook MAC Collection. This post includes photographs and swatches of the following colors:
- Laundry Daze (Satin): Light yellow
- Colour Added (Veluxe Pearl): Bright yellow
- Self-Serve (Satin): Deep grey
- Pre-Packaged (Satin): Muted turquoise
This quad is packaged in a standard MAC container–a plastic 2-by-2 palette with a see-through, flip-up, magnetized lid. The outer box packaging has a retro, throw-back design.
Laundry Daze is a subtly frosty cream without the yellow tint MAC says it has. This color applies smoothly and evenly and makes for a good highlighting color.
Colour Added is a high-performing, sun-yellow also with a slight frosty finish. The color applies very evenly and smoothly and has strong color payoff.
Pre-Packaged is a deep teal (not quite turquoise, as MAC describes it) with a pearlized finish. This color needs building up to smooth out the finish.
Self-Serve is a deep grey with tiny silver and purple pearls. You need to layer this color, otherwise the finish is not opaque and applies unevenly.
I’m impressed by Laundry Daze and even more so by Colour Added, which are both creamy colors with strong pay-off. Pre-Packaged and Self-Serve are less impressive because they don’t go on as smoothly. Luckily, you can layer both colors to build up the finishes, though Self-Serve doesn’t seem to want to be completely opaque.
Ease of Use: 8.5/10
You won’t have a problem with Laundry Daze or Colour Added, but expect to spend a little more time with the other 2 colors. Pre-Packaged layers effectively but Self-Serve requires more work.
Single shadows are (now) $15.00 each, so for four colors, $38.00 is a very good deal.
