Review & Swatches: Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek Palette

Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek Palette

Availability: Sephora
Price: $45.00

Company’s Description

Each of this palette’s silky powder blushes imparts skin with a natural glow and true color payoff that wears all day long. The formula has micronized powders which blend over skin evenly and easily. Buildable color allows for completely custom coverage for every skin tone.

Tarina Tarantino’s Dollskin Cheek Palette includes 4 of the brand’s Dollskin Cheek colors: Feather (shimmery peach), Parasol (shimmery pink/peach), Carved Rose (cool vivid pink), and Candy Cameo (shimmery pink).

LiLash.com: It looks like Magic, but it's real.

Packaging: 8.5/10

This cheek quad comes in a silver plastic compact with a snap-shut lid that has a big mirror inside. The packaging is reasonably lightweight. My two criticisms of the packaging are: (1) the names of the colors are not actually on the compact, so you have to keep the box packaging with you if you care about the shade names; (2) the pans are quite small, so a large fluffy blush brush has a hard time fitting into them.

Quality: 7.25/10

Feather is a light peachy gold with gold shimmers and has the best color payoff of the 4 blushes. It also gives the most even finish.

Parasol is a pinky coral with tons of gold shimmer.

Carved Rose is a matte, fuchsia-toned pink. It doesn’t apply onto the skin smoothly and requires layering to build up the finish.

Candy Cameo is a pink with widely-spaced shimmers. The color is weak in pigmentation.

Overall, I am disappointed in the quality of these blushes. They are all lacking in pigmentation to varying degrees. In the swatches you see below, I had to layer most of the colors several times for the color to show up.

The formula is also “dry” in a way that makes them apply poorly and unevenly onto the skin. The powder doesn’t seem to want to transfer onto the brush.

Ease of Use: 7.5/10

Using these colors requires applying several layers and blending out the powder to get an even finish. If you are using a fluffy brush, you’ll have to press it into the pan to get the powder to transfer onto the bristles.

Price: 9.25/10

For $45.00, you get 4 colors and a total of 0.48 ounces of blush. A single, full-sized Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek blush is $25.00 and contains 0.2 ounces of product. You get a good deal for the amount of product you get.

They have this palette on Hautelook for $24. I already have parasol and love it, so I wanted to try the others. I am definitely not willing to spend $45 for this, but think $24 is fairly reasonable.

This seems like a potentially great item, a nice selection of colors all-in-one; it would be a nice space-saver. They APPEAR to be great wearable colors. But from an item for this price, I expect at least moderate-to-good pigment, without unevenness. I’ll put up with unevenness from my ELF blushes, but not from TT. The pan size is very annoying; though the packaging makes it look very attractive. It’d also be nice if they had a matte shade; and a more luminous/dimensional finish instead of a shimmery/sparkly finish.

Carved Rose is matte, but it’s the only one. I’d also like to see at least 2 matte shades. Good mattes are so much more wearable, but companies seem to concentrate more on shimmery blushes. I guess good mattes are more difficult to formulate.

  3. OMGorgeous I like this palette a lot 🙂

The palette is BEAUTIFUL! Too bad the quality isn’t that great. I’ll still try them out in store so I can judge by myself. Thank you for this review though!
