Tarte recently released 3 shades of its new Maracuja Blush & Glow Brightening Luminizer and Cheek Tint. This is a 2-in-1 product that includes a cheek tint and a luminizer. The shade Moonlight is reviewed below. Moonlight contains a silvery-pink luminizer and a light-medium pink cheek tint.
This product has 2 main components: the plastic squeeze tube and the rounded cap. The squeeze tube contains the luminizer and the cap that attaches to the tube holds the cheek tint.
I find this packaging less than ideal. You have to remove the cap that contains the blush on it to access the luminizer and then put the blush-cap back on to use the blush.
The luminizer gives the skin a very subtle sheen. The glitters are tiny, so you don’t get a disco-ball effect. The luminizing effect will be too subtle for most people looking for a night-time highlighter, but it is very refined and appropriate for a conservative day-time look.
The formula is very thin and blends out effortlessly. The product is versatile and works on the cheeks, under the brow bone, down the nose, and on the cupid’s bow. As Tarte suggests, you can also mix this with your foundation to give a very under-stated glow to the skin. Because of the thin and watery consistency, it should mix well with most liquid foundations.
The cheek tint is a pretty, slightly frosty pink color. The color payoff once it’s applied to the cheeks is soft, so you won’t get as strong of a pink on the face as you see in the swatch. I found that the color was too subtle for my taste (and I’m pretty subtle when it comes to my everyday face makeup), so I applied a light layer of powder blush over the cheek tint.
Ease of Use: 8.5/10
The luminizer is extremely easy to use. The simplest way is to blend it over the skin with your fingers. It blends out smoothly and doesn’t leave any harsh lines.
The cheek tint form-factor makes application a bit awkward. You drag the rounded end over the cheeks and then blend out with your fingers. You get some patchiness that will need to be blended out and layered over.
For $32.00 you get about 1 ounce of product. There isn’t anything I know of like this product in other brands’ lines, but Anastasia also sells a highlighting and cream blush duo for $26.00; that product contains 1.07 ounces of product.
