A captivating color palette of shadows and shadow-liners that provides endless options for the eyes.
There are currently 3 volumes of theBalm’s Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette, all of which include 9 pressed shadows. This review is for the Shady Lady palette Vol. 1. You can see the review for Vol. 2 here.
The shadows are housed in a thick cardboard palette. The palette itself comes inside a sleeve that is designed exactly like the palette. The palette flips open and shuts with a magnetic closure. The lid has a mirror inside, but doesn’t stand upright on its own, so you’ll have to hold it up if you want to utilize the mirror.
Caught in the Act Courtney is a chocolate brown with gold glitters. Shameless Shana is a Tahitian bronze with a frosty finish. Luscious Lani is a very light, frosty pink. Jealous Jordana is a deep, forest green with lighter green shimmers. Risque Renee is a deep royal blue with lighter blue shimmers. Curvy Cami is light-to-medium plum with lighter shimmers. Jet-Setting Jennifer is a frosty cream with a touch of gold. All About Alex is a pale olive with shimmers. Easy Wheezie is a blue-toned grey with pale shimmers.
This palette has a mix of colors with good payoff and disappointing payoff. Caught in the Act Courtney is probably the most disappointing–it’s not intensely pigmented or opaque. Easy Wheezie is in the same ballpark, but goes one slightly more evenly. Jealous Jordana, Risque Renee, and Curvy Cami could also be more vibrant and opaque.
It seems the neutral and light colors perform much better. Shameless Shana, Luscious Lani and Jet-Setting Jennifer have good pigmentation and even finishes. Curvy Cami and All About Alex aren’t far behind.
Despite the differences in pigmentation, color payoff, and even finish, the formula for all the colors is creamy and soft, making them all glide onto the skin smoothly.
Ease of Use: 9/10
The formula for these shadows is creamy, which makes them easy to pick up with a brush and transfer onto the skin. The formula also makes these shadows easy to blend.
For $39.50, you get 9 colors and a total of 19.4 grams of shadow. Single ShadyLady eyeshadows are $16.00 each and contain 2.8 grams. You are paying much more than half the price for each gram of eyeshadow by buying the Shady Lady palette.
